It's #official: Tao submits lawsuit to end exclusive contract with SM Entertainment

The official legal process has started for Tao’s departure from EXO and SM Entertainment.

According to local news source Kookmin Ilbo, Tao has officially submitted through his legal rep a lawsuit to contest his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment to the Seoul Central District Court today, August 24 KST. His legal rep is reportedly the same Luhan’s and Kris’s.

Until now, Tao has only effectively been out of his group and SM Entertainment after his father announced this past May the singer’s desire to depart the group. He has since started his solo activities in China with the release of a mini album.

UPDATE:
SM Entertainment has issued an official response. It said it will firmly respond to all of Tao’s “illegal activities” through lawsuits and other legal means, both in China and in Korea.

Was kinda hoping Tao wouldn't start a lawsuit. Like do the Jessica, wait until SM finally say we don't want you, case closed. It's cheaper and less hassle.

But, I guess this way is more saying like, I'm dumping you SM *slaps you in the face* cuz you suck.

I feel like his case is going to be more complicated because he didn't just leave and sue all in one go. He started releasing music before he sued and I'm still super confused on where he stands legally because of that.

Perhaps, but perhaps not. He may have spent the time trying to negotiate behind scenes, so it might in his favor, becuase they can already claim they tried to work it out peacefully or even tried to stay with the company it was just SME unreasonable demands that pushed him this far.
