2NE1 watch: YG discusses lack of 2NE1 promotions, CL's impending american debut

Without any new music since early in 2014, even 2NE1's boss wants to listen to new music from the K-pop quintet.

Yang Hyun Suk, the CEO of YG Entertainment, sat down for an interview recently where he opened up about several situations, including the fact that 2NE1 was absent from a highly competitive summer for the K-pop world. The group has been inactive for a variety of reasons, including leader CL's impending debut into the American music market.

Addressing the fact that 2NE1 missed a rush of girl groups' releasing new music this summer, Yang spoke about the group's future.

"Seeing those girl groups, I thought [to] myself," Yang said, according to the interview published on YG Entertainment's official blog."'I really wanna listen to 2NE1's music.' You know, 2NE1 is a rare girl group who has a distinct and unique color. However, my focus is not on CL's imminent solo debut in the United States. I believe that CL's success in the country will give a good influence to 2NE1's comeback."

CL (real name Lee Chaerin) began preparations for her debut into the American music market in 2014 and is signed to SB Records, under Scooter Braun. She is preparing to release a new album and make the festival circuit in upcoming months.

2NE1's Dara has taken on several acting roles during the hiatus, and youngest member Minzy has spent time traveling. The group's fourth member, Park Bom, took a break from public life after being involved in a drug smuggling-related scandal last year.

The group's last album was the 2014 studio album "Crush," released in February. They also released a best hits album in Japan, and the "2104 2NE1 World Tour Live CD (All or Nothing in Seoul)."

we all know the only thing a 2NE1 comeback is dependent on is Bom's scandal getting somewhat forgotten. with this interview it's obvious yhs is trying to kill two birds with one stone: deflect from the scandal by putting the weight on CL's solo + a desperate attempt to get group fans to support the venture by acting like the group's comeback depends on CL's success. ppl who can't see that are lying to themselves lol

The fact that he's trying to put this pressure on CL and her solo venture because he couldn't deal with Bom's scandal properly and doesn't want to admit the group is over and done at least for a long whole, is pathetic to say the least.

Also who is he trying to fool here, the comeback will be impossible not just because the public will never let go of that scandal but also because Dara is clearly trying to be an actress, Minzy looks done with not just YGE as a company but most of YGE people (or well most of them are done with her). CL will be doing her own thing, if she doesn't get any moderate success at first she'll keep trying, if she does, she'll need to promote, promote, promote to keep the momentum.

There is no way this cb is happening and if his intentions are trying to get the flopjack fandom to support CL thinking that will give them a 2ne1 cb, he's gonna fail miserably. They wouldn't support her in Korea, not just that but worked against her, they'll certainly do anything they can not to help her US debut seeing how 99% of that flop ass fandom actually believes CL is responsible for lack of 2ne1's activities.

My girl has enough on her plate for his mind games, her being her kind self will actually believe this shit and put all that pressure on herself. He can go and fuck himself on this account as far as I'm concerned.

Yes because you have a crystal ball. CL is currently out there performing in front of 15K crowd a night, killing it, making connections, working with some amazing producers, gaining new fans. She doesn't have to explode but she'll defo make waves. So keep your pressed ass where it belongs.

She's actually signed to Scooter though, and with Skrillex + Diplo promoting her so much she'll probably see the light of day. I'm hoping for moderate success for her, if not in the US then worldwide. I mean there's a lot of acts that are popular way before they hit it big in the US, like Coldplay etc.

I feel bad for Park Bom most of all. From her PS/self-image issues which YG no doubt inflicted upon her, the absolute ruin her voice has become, this shitty scandal. YG sucks. Hope she'll take a true sabbatical, re-train her voice properly and do songs that actually suit her and slay bitches... after getting the fuq out of her contract of course.

Tbh I'm probably still in denial that they will come back as a group despite the fact that the girls are out there in so many different ways. Ngl, I've always thought Minzy was like the f(x) of YG. She's never gotten anything solo and her only other activities outside of 2NE1 were still collabs with other artists. Hell even Dara got a solo track and she's the worst singer of the group.

Funny, today one of my co-worked who went to the Mad Block Party this weekend told me about a "Japanese Band" who was opening for the main act.

Interest peaked, I looked at the performers and there it was CL... Embarrassed I tell her I know who she is. So she goes off and tells me how horrible and weird it was, how ppl were cheering but she felt it would have been a great time to be high, since it was the only way to enjoy this weird fest. Apparently she started meowing on stage at some point and that's when my friend was basically done even trying to pay attention.

So much second hand embarrassment. Next time someone asks me, I'll just say I don't know them.

btw, I would have assumed she'd rap/sing in English, but my friend kept saying she "wish" she could understand... I did not ask for more info

It's rather odd to me too that CL is hitting up all these festivals without an English languaged repertoire of her own. The majority of the crowd will not know 2NE1 so I guess CL could 'get away' with doing their songs (her solo's and collaborations added), but it still feels weird to me that she doesnt 't have a proper American solo single or two out that she could promote - because that's what she's there for right, her American debut?

Lol @ her 'meowing'. I like 2NE1 but CL's on stage persona has never been my thing and idk but it seems to be getting less and less my thing now that she's in the US with the hipster crowd.
