Everything was on point and I loved the Nobody and Tell Me stages except for the IFY stage. I like the song and the vocals were good but that whole dancing with the instruments thing doesn't lend itself well live and makes the whole Wonder Band thing more gimmicky then it already is.
I really like the live version of IFY a lot more than the album one, it sounds cleaner and less cluttered.
As for the performance, the girls still have a major case of what bellydancers call sword face. (you put a sword on your head to balance it, and you're still dancing and smiling but anyone looking at your face can see the wheels turning to keep that sword in place.) It should only be a matter of getting comfortable with the singing/dancing/playing though. And it's mainly in IFY with the gimmicky choreo, they seem more relaxed elsewhise.
I still can't believe WG comeback is actually happening, I feel so happy watching all the new videos of them! T___T Love these versions of Tell Me and Nobody. IFY is still growing on me, but I really think it's a good song. Oh, and I love this music from the teaserss, they looked so badass performing it!
Omg Yenny get that keyboard solo!!! And I'm loving her makeup here.
I'm honestly so fcking pissed they didn't put the band remixes on the album at least digitally. I have so so many comments so I just won't make them lmao.
this is the first performance i've seen where they actually have decent mics, because i was honestly worrying for their vocals ever since their showcase, i can rest assured now
Lol at the girl at the beginning on tell me... she is like "oppa did you see yubin she is so fucking hot we are going to die tonight oppa" haha. No but for real Yubin looks Wonderful, stunning my god... and Sunmi is gorgeous.
They sound really good here, ify sounds better live imo
(0:00 - 0:35) The intro is obviously...well, an introduction.
(0:36 - 1:55) They talk about how it's been their first appearance on the show in three years. They're talking about how nervous they are, especially with instruments this time around. Yeeun mentions how they were looking forward to performing on Sketchbook since it's a great opportunity to play live in front of an appreciative, then talks about how they even thought about doing random performances with masks on around town (presumably in clubs/bars).
(1:56 - 2:30) It's Sunmi's first time on Sketchbook ever and her first time with the Wonder Girls in five years. (Her quirkiness is still there.) She talks about how fascinating it is to see him in person, and then he jokes about how unbelievable it is to see him in person.
(2:31 - 3:20) YHY compliments Yoobin but also makes fun of her performance face. Yeeun comments that she's not really self-aware, and doesn't notice what she does (i.e., her wink in the instrument teaser). YHY then comments on her confidence.
(3:21 - 5:26) YHY states how it's nice to hear "Tell Me" again but it's a bit disappointing not seeing the dance. They talk about their move into "band" performances. (Yoobin practiced for 1.5 years, then Hyerim learned guitar. Yeeun already knew keyboard, so Sunmi felt like she had to do something. Interestingly, this was around the time when Sunmi was doing her "Full Moon" promotions (so her return to the Wonder Girls was planned for a while). So she learned bass. They decided on their own to try and play together, and they received approval from their company / JYP. This turned into officially moving to a band "concept".) Yeeun talks about how no matter how hard they tried, they'd be inferior to musicians who've been playing for 10-20 years. As they were preparing, they realised the joy of playing music together as a band, but there were ups and downs.
(5:27 - 6:04) YHY then mentions how he had a conversation with the music director after rehearsal, and the director stated that it would have been so difficult to transition from being a dance group to a band that also dances, but you can see their effort/determination.
(6:05 - 7:03) They talk about how they've had great songs and also big experience. The "Big 3" events are their debut, their American promotional work, and "band".
(7:04 - 7:45) YHY asks the girls about what they practice/do for music. Hyerim confirms that they're trying out the music they showed in their teasers. Unusually, the teasers helped the girls by showing them what they could do (something about a fan who mashed up all four clips together), according to Yeeun.
(7:46 - 8:56) Music Instrumental Performance, with solos from each Wonder Girl.
(8:57 - 10:17) Yoobin mentions the mash-up again. After some applause, the conversation moves towards former members Sunye and Sohee. Sunmi mentions that Sunye dropped by the MV set, and Sohee cheered them on by text when they had their showcase. They meet each other often. When asked about Sunye's reaction, Yeeun basically says that Sunye was like, "OMG" but that they looked good. She came with her kid.
(10:18 - 10:53) YHY talks about Sunye being the first girl group member (of that generation) to get married. "How was it?" he asks. It was great, they respond. Yeeun says that "firsts" are great, but YHY says there can be bad "firsts". She replies that it's a marriage, so it's a good thing. She then goes on to say how pretty Sunye was (and how women are so pretty in their wedding dresses).
(10:54 - end) YHY discusses how the group must have stressed/worried/wondered about the reception to their comeback/concept. They ultimately reply that yes, that was correct. Interestingly, they agreed to ignore the news and just do their own thing, but they ended up (individually) checking online to see how they were doing. YHY mentions the chart all-kill *cue applause*.
YHY ends the interview by saying that ultimately, it's the 2nd...not generation but...rebirth?...of the Wonder Girls, and how it can be a great thing, and how he hopes for great things from them in the future.
