YG Trainee for New Girl Group Joins Unpretty Rapstar Season 2

New reports state that a member from YG Entertainment’s upcoming girl group will be appearing in the show. The source for this report claims, “She has yet to debut but she is famous for her skills. It’s to the point that she is already considered a powerful candidate.”

Viewers are especially excited about news of the YG trainee due to the success of Bobby on “Show Me the Money 3.” Bobby was also a YG trainee who eventually won the rap competition.

Other reports have stated that Gilme and Fiestar’s Yezi are confirmed cast members.

Meanwhile, Mnet has come forth with a new statement saying, “We had interviews with around 100 individuals. We have not discussed any confirmations with any of them.” The producers admitted that they have indeed interviewed Wonder Girl’s Yubin, SISTAR’s Hyorin, the YG trainee, Fiestar’s Yezi, and more. Of course Mnet continues to stress that no members have been confirmed yet.

um it shows that she can rap well, way better than bora at least. hyorin also writes and compses like in her solo album. plus jessie is a singer originally and no one questioned her on upr. if hyorin actually gets on the show, i'm sure she'll do fine since she lives and breaths music.

Um, it shows that she can cover a song very well. I can follow and rap a common song very well, but that does not make me a rapper. Jessi identifies herself as a singer, but she also dabbles in/ writes her own rap. Unlike Hyorin, there are videos of her rapping before UPR, like her own song/part, actually rapping.

in earlier sistar songs, hyorin had rap parts with bora. also she rapped in her solo song, one way love. she dabbles into rap like jessi. obvi she doesn't showcase it as much since she's the lead singer in her group, but that mean she wouldn't be able to hold her own in upr. w/e we'll just have to agree to disagree on this

I'd laugh if this turned out to be Jennie Kim, for that girl has yet to impress me.... but perhaps she's gotten better since YG had her feature randomly on all those tracks.

Agreed. I like 2ne1 too especially Bom but come on they aren't any different from other girl groups. YG shouldn't even be pinning women against each other it contradicts the idea that 2ne1 is for empowering women, obviously only if they are a certain type of women. Whats wrong with being "cute", nothing. I know its a stereotype about Asian women but at the same time that's not SNSD or anyone other kpop groups problem. Thats like when black people think they are better than other black people because they aren't "ghetto", and tell other black people if they didn't act a certain way people wouldn't hate us. Yes some black people fit a stereotype but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with those black people neither does it mean that black people who don't act like that stereotype are any better. Like if a black person speaks AAVE can sing, dance, or rap well should they change just cuz its stereotype or should they just be themselves. I dunno anything about SNSD (I'm using them cuz YG compares them the most to 2ne1) but lets say they really do like doing the cutesy concept they shouldn't be put down for it just because some idiots stereotype all Asian women as being that way. But yeah it annoys me, if your here for women, and want to change the Asian female stereotype how about doing it in a way that says Asian can be anything they wanna be. CL whole image rubs me the wrong. YG also really needs to stop pretending like 2ne1 does not rely on looks. CL wears a shit tone of makeup she's up there with Gain and Cheetah as the girls who wear the most makeup in kpop, Bom and Minzy both have had plastic surgery, Dara is basically in the group to begin with for her looks like come on, you have to be delusional to think 2ne1 doesn't rely on looks.

About 2NE1, actually the makeup and PS make them only presentable, bc if you ask their fans, most of them wouldn't say they're pretty. At least not like Korea's standard of beauty which is the "natural", non-threatening style to the eyes of men. I don't think YG and 2NE1 ever said there's anything wrong with having that look-- more like it doesn't fit their personalities, so they're not going to force that look. You're probably going by what most Blackjacks would say.

I think what YG meant to say is they rely on confidence and attitude which do link to their outer appearance, yes. Heavy makeup and over-accessories are part of that look. Now whether they personally have confidence is another matter. Bom for sure has serious body image issues on top of her mental health issues. Dara and Minzy have improved and are slowly accepting themselves..

That said. YG is still an ass because he's is hard on 2NE1 about their looks (telling CL and Bom they're ugly, Dara having a thin body, Minzy being too thick) while hypocritically saying all this BS about letting 2NE1 be fierce and strong. I'm sure he contributed a lot to their lack of self confidence and it's incredibly sad how irreversible it is.

And yeah that really bothers me too that he puts 2ne1 down for their looks especially since I don't here him doing the same with BIGBANG because besides TOP none of them are all the conventionally good looking either. CL is not even ugly, she looks good to me I still til this day don't understand how she's ugly. i get all of that but my original point still stands: if hyorin goes out and does well (or even wins), wtf does that make bora then? is hyorin going to rap AND sing in future sistar songs? will bora then get dasom's lines? like... it doesn't make any sense. hyorin is already known as a power vocalist. why not instead do a solo comeback? it just feels very redundant.

and tbh although hyorin is better than bora, she isn't good either. she just has a more pleasant tone.

Hyolyn just might be doing it (if she is) so that she can build a fanbase for her solo stuff. In her interviews, she's always talking about how she wants to do hardcore hip-hop and r&b but Korea doesn't really take her seriously in that department (Erase was a flop, Without You was a flop, that JooheonxSanE track was a flop). I'm not saying that she needs to go on that show but just because she does, doesn't mean that she's all of a sudden going to be the main rapper in Sistar. Most likely it's to promo and get fans for her solo comeback. She doesn't want to do a solo where all she does is hit high notes, she's said before that she doesn't want to be so predictable but the public doesn't care about her music unless she's hitting high notes and doing complicated runs. Her fans from Sistar and IS2/IAAS know her as a vocalist and they literally expect her to belt and if she doesn't they're disappointed in the song. I think she wants to expand her fanbase past people who're only interested in her "power vocal" and gain fans who actually like hiphop and R&B (and probably gain respect from the hip-hop community). I believe that that's what she wants to change as well as to show people that she can actually write and compose because Starship won't let her try out her compositions on Sistar's albums or her own, so the free digital tracks (with free promotion from the show) is probably something that they want.

Hell if hyorin is on the show I'd rather see son seung yeon on it. Being able to cover a rap is different from being able to freestyle or create lyrics to your own rap.

Even though I think Hyolyn could also benefit from this show, imo, she's kinda too big for it. I mean, the news of her being on it kind of eclipsed the news of others. It's an unfair balance (especially if you think that Hyolyn one day up and decided to become a rapper and gets to debut on this big show unlike other rappers who have to get their big break battling others in street performances) although I think other contestants could use it as their David v Goliath moment.

And as for Bora, she's said a couple of times that she's working on her rap-writing skills and trying to get better but she's also said that she doesn't want to write diss raps. So..it's not like Hyolyn is "taking" anything from Bora if Bora doesn't want to do Unpretty Rapstar.

People forget (I guess) that Hyolyn also has a solo career that she's trying to make work--meaning that she doesn't need Sistar songs to benefit from any hype she gets from possibly appearing on this show--and she's said over and over that she wants to focus on hip-hop and R&B.

But the question is, CAN Hyolyn write raps? Can she freestyle? I mean, I don't know. She says it often enough that she's interested in that kind of stuff but does she practice? IDK. She's also not out here making mixtapes like other rappers do.
