I don't think the *stylists* were actually going for an afro, I thought it was supposed to be "electrocuted" hair to go with the horror concept, and it's pretty much all going up rather than out. But the linking of thrashed, damaged looking hair with naturally textured hair is just gross.

does styling and dying mess w/ the hair's natural texture? does the hair just get limpish? even w/ the treatment conditioners and stuff sometimes dyed hair still looks not so great. i would dye mine but i'm scared of this, bc then i'd actually have to syle it...hmmmmm
The combination of chemical processing/dying and heat can definitely mess up your hair's texture, particularly if bleaching is involved. See: The current frazzled mess on top of Taeyang's head.

I sort of saw this coming from a mile away when I saw shinee's photo teasers. I'm mad they said his hair looked like broccoli cuz to me that was implying that black people's hair looks like broccoli. This is why it annoys me when people say its just a hairstyle. Obviously braids, afros, dreads are associated with black people and we get made fun of for wearing these styles yet kpop idols use it as a gimmick. Some people argue that Koreans aren't American, they don't have a history of discriminating against black people who wear their hair natural. Which I understand but if they are calling yoon mi rae's son nappy headed then they obviously don't favor the hairstyles and only use it for mostly either hiphop concepts or to seem unique. Heck if you look at what start appropriation of African American culture in Korea it mostly came from Korean rappers who thought wearing braids and afros made them more legit. I read a really good article about it actually it was called "Cultural Appropriation in Korea: It started with Khip-hop". It was written by a korean guy who worked in the underground hiphop scene in korea but unfortunately it got deleted shortly after it was published because of the backlash from delusional fans.
