DSP Media has given out a warning to everyone on their message boards against leaving malicious comments against their artists.

On July 30th, the agency writes,

“Hello, this is DSP Media. There has recently been a lot of malicious comments and rumors circulating against KARA, Rainbow, and other artists that are under DSP Media, so we are conveying our official position.”

“Things such as baseless rumors and malicious comments have caused psychological damage to the artists and have also affected their acquaintances, family, and friends.”

“We will take strong measures against the first distributor and anyone else who spreads the malicious comments in order to avoid an unsavory situation.”

“We would like to ask for everyone’s considerate actions in order for DSP Media’s artists not to be wounded from bad comments and false accusations.”

Koreaboo

Will you be only positive in the comments now, Omona?

The comment is a reply to the post and the op note at the end [Will you be only positive in the comments now, Omona?]
That's what this comment is.

i was being sarcastic, hunnie. i can read so you can drop the fucking attitude now. i'm just wondering why someone would say, "FUCK DSP," when they're just trying to protect their idols' mental health hmmm ?????????????????????????????????????????? whether this company poorly manages their artists or not - thus the reason you felt the need to say that - it's a foot in the door

oh be quiet. i'm pretty sure he/she was being sarcastic themselves. hence the "kidding" part. i know, because i *read* it. god i hate it when even on omona people start being rude to each other. smh.

I'mma be real and say shit like this annoys me. JYP made some teenager pay thousands for starting a rumor that Suzy was pregnant in a country where men are beating their wives and teachers are raping their students without the legal system giving a single fuck about it. You can run someone over, hide the body, not serve jail time and even continue being a celebrity but god forbid a dumb kid starts an internet rumor.

Date: 2015-07-31 04:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tempestdance.livejournal.com
oh yes, because jyp should be held responsible for not punishing rapists properly, like what kind of logic is this.
koreans fucking know it's fucked up that the current legal system is way too lenient on rapists and abusers, no one thinks that shit's okay - just because there are higher ups who'd like to keep the current law so they can get away with their own orgy parties doesn't mean that shit's accepted. and jo hyung ki did serve jailtime; it's shitty that he's back on tv but i can assure you no one supports it.

how is the fact that korean legal system being shitty in any way related to celebrities wanting to protect their image and rumor-free? do you realize your logic is like saying "you can't complain about your little problem because there are people dying somewhere else"?

Date: 2015-07-31 06:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] msgrottesca.livejournal.com
Now girl, I'm not blaming JYP in the slightest and I don't know why you're reading it that way. What I'm saying is that I think it's ridiculous that Korea's justice system takes slander more seriously than violent crime. I don't know why you read my comment differently but I did not mean to imply what you think I'm saying at all.

Date: 2015-07-31 07:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tempestdance.livejournal.com
your first comment makes it sound like "a dumb kid starting a rumor" is harmless - it may be less harmful than violent crimes but it's still a malicious crime with the intent to hurt others, just not physically.

like i said, punishment for violent crime being light shouldn't mean punishment for slander should be even lighter. slander is a crime that needs to be punished. violent crimes such as rape and assault should be punished more harshly, but you can't downplay cyber bullying just because there are worse crimes out there.

also if anything slander isn't even that seriously considered anyway, i don't even know where you're getting this. it's only very recently that celebrities were able to take actions against rumors and malicious comments.

I do agree that some netizens take things way too far and that actions should be taken against that, it just frustrates me that it's actually easier to draw legal attention to the silly (albeit hurtful) ramblings of sexually frustrated and insecure teenagers on the internet than actual crimes. It's so upsetting to see what people, apparently, really care about.

I also think that in many cases, these situations could be handled by the company rather than bringing in law enforcement. SM made basically zero efforts to protect Taeyeon or others themselves, which is part of what has allowed the situation to get so out of hand.

Everything I've read about Korean defamation laws makes them seem very weak and exploitable so I could see this becoming a bit of an issue but only time will tell. Cyberbullying is one thing but god knows what some companies may try to start suing for if this becomes a trend.

Without the tags, I wouldn't even know who was in DSP. And then I'd still have to Google so no loss. If someone's gonna start a rumor, they won't go down for DSP...lol.

you people complain about netizens being pieces of shit all the time and when agencies are actually trying to do something like protecting their idols' public image and mental health you guys throw shades - like what.

i'm surprised by the comments here. isn't this is something that we should be supporting about? that these companies finally take serious about these matters and that measures are being taken to curb malicious comments and excessive hate towards idols. why won't you support this?

Where were you when I actually cared about your company and ppl said shit all the time about SS501 and threw eggs at them and stuff hmmm!! Jk tho I am not a bitter ex-stan guess it's good some companies are starting to care. Altho I still find it a bit weird at times. Imagine if Western stars started doing this more. All the assess that would need to be covered at ONTD lol.

Yup lol no doubt but thankfully it's usually enough to just take down the post. always wonder if ONTD mods work it out themselves or how much lj covers for the place. Or maybe Oprah used to watch over the community back when she was a fan, bless her.

it's sort of amusing how more sites ban ontd members from using their sources. ontd posts can get reaallyyy messy. can't believe i went into that infamous secret post. i don't usually partake in any convos there and just read. my fave is probably ladypolitik. she is awesme. when there were posts about the isis stuff she was ready w/ lots of links and just comments that are concise and straightforward.

They don't want ONTD to steal their ~views but sites will steal from ONTD no problem lmao no respect! It used to be worse and way messier so I don't mind it nowadays as much. Less trolls, people more willing to call shit out. Although it can still be insufferable so I take long breaks from even looking at it often. It can be surprisingly informative about a lot of stuff, people don't see that when all they do is look at the wank posts with 500 comments.

Date: 2015-07-31 05:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ababobaby.livejournal.com
Lol tbh the messier the posts, the more educational. You just gotta weed out the trolls or people who are obviously... ignorant about stuff. It's less messier definitely. Anything that deals with mysoginism, sexism, racism and just any -ism posts are just really educational. Weirdest post was Ariana's when I only saw a few calling her out for licking a donut or there were just people who straight out ignored what she did.

Rather than the first comments... I think it's great that idols and companies alike start taking action. Criticism is ok, but groundless hate and threats are not. Sadly, there are a lot of these on the internet. And the hainous netizens should be held accountable for their actions.
It doesn't mean that the Korean justice system is perfect (or any national justice system anyway), and even just in the idol business, there seem to be a lot of abuse going on. At least, something is starting to be done about cyber bullying...
