GOT7 dominates Idol Got 10
2015-07-28 11:51 amIdol Got 10 is an idol ranking show based on the most popular SNS mentions, hashtags, and video uploads. GOT7 ended up taking 5 of the 10 spots for the fourth week of July, including 1st place.
5th: Junior for his acting in "My Love Eundong"
4th: JB for getting 2nd place in a boy group leaders poll
3rd: Bambam for his name (?)
1st: Mark for this Instagram picture:

I know it doesn't really count for anything but it's good to see that they're doing well on SNS within Korea. I'd be interested to see what the actual methodology behind these rankings is.

Date: 2015-07-28 05:23 pm (UTC)I'm so proud of all the love they're getting. And Marquitos is so cute, I can't even deal.
Looking at different GOT7 tumblrs, I realize that a lot of people who likes them likes BTS too, but seriously A LOT. It almost seems like they're the same fandom.

Date: 2015-07-28 05:56 pm (UTC)I didn't know about them being friends with GOT7, maybe that's part of the reason that the fandoms match so often.

Date: 2015-07-28 09:18 pm (UTC)JB is beautiful and sexy, Jackson is fine as hell and their music is fun.
I'm not surprised their personalities are winning everyone over, they seem to have a really great bond. Jackson needs to push his hair back, someone tell Jackson his hair looks sexy pushed back.

Date: 2015-07-28 10:04 pm (UTC)A good example of this is my bias group is Vixx and they have said some mean things about their Leader N because compare to him, he is a bit tanner then the rest. I still love them, but I know when to put my foot down when they fuck up. So you can still like Kai, but I understand if you don't want to after that. If its too much, take a step back from EXO for at least maybe three days and then when you feel that you can think about him without feeling mad then start picking up where you left off with him.
And speaking of GOT7, I'm telling you this now, so you aren't blindsided when you find out, but a while ago, Jackson put a picture of himself on his instagram. EDIT: The picture was of him with his face darken, a fan had sent it to him.
Now when that happen a bunch of people went to his account and told him that it was really wrong to put the image up and what it meant and how others would take it the wrong way. He saw this and quickly apologized and deleted the picture. Now this doesn't always happen in Kpop, like its rarely happens when an idol gets called out, listens to the person calling them out and fixes the issue. Since then, he has been pretty clean.
you can read more about it here: http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/15343756.html#comments
EDIT: I didn't mean for this to be so long OTL

Date: 2015-07-28 11:21 pm (UTC)I've known for a while that you can like someone that has fucked up as long as you don't justify/ignore what they did and if you decide you want to continue liking them.
I also know that nice people can be assholes too, I guess and I'm trying to see this is a good thing but I still believe people can be good ultimately, not flawless, just decent.
The thing that bothers me with this is to see kpop which as far as I've seen (and what even a lot of fans say) is hugely influenced by black people, have SO MANY artists say shitty things about black people. It's outrageous to me. I'm used to white Western media doing it (which is not good nor does it mean I think it's acceptable from them) but I don't think I have the energy to 'get used to' it from kpop too.
Then there's the part where for me, it's more upsetting when other poc dehumanize black people. Kai, I assumed would know better because of all the colorism he gets but then again ofc, it's not exactly new for a poc to develop internalized racism. I really, really like EXO's music and I got into kpop recently because I thought it was fun and lighthearted so all this almost constant prejudiced stuff towards black people is genuinely exhausting and insulting.
I don't think people are perfect, it's just personally always disappointing when people that seem otherwise decent AND are poc say or do anti-black things.
This is also not to say that everyone in South Korea thinks like a small number of privileged popstars or that all of kpop is terrible, the heart of the problem is I'm just tired of not having a place where I can escape anti-blackness.
I'll be fine later and I'm sure some people think this is overdramatic but I don't enjoy having to worry that some popstar I like whether from Kpop or the West or somewhere else is going to denigrate my people especially not when there are currently very real, violent, often fatal consequences for black people when other people don't recognize our humanity. It's truly mentally tiring to not even find relief from that in entertainment.
As for Jackson, thanks for the heads up! Well, he apologized so that's good and I'm glad for that. Idk what else I feel now tbh.
Thank you so much, again for replying and so thoughtfully, I hope you understand where I'm coming from. This site and a couple of other tumblrs have been really useful and helpful.

Date: 2015-08-01 10:39 pm (UTC)I totally agree that I need to learn how to criticise it from a pov that applies more to South Korea/East Asian history as opposed to US history. I don't think I am the annoyed stage yet, I'm more just tired of so much anti-blackness, I like kpop as a fun, lighthearted escapism thing so it's jarring when there's such an ugly side barely beneath the surface.
I really do think that things can improve and I'm okay about Kai now. Tbh I'm glad I'm not desensitized, it's better to care about those things than ignore them, that helps no one.

Date: 2015-07-29 05:12 am (UTC)His looks, him being American, thinking about international fans a lot and understanding English. Also a big factor is everyone in his group adores him (JB and him go way back, Markson are bffs practically joined at the hip, Markjin is so lovey-dovey it's ugh, he has known Bambam forever and dotes on him and takes care of him a lot, he adopted YuGyeom as his official little brother and nowadays it's clear how yongjae looks up to and likes him) so even if he isn't everyone's #1, he's high on everyone's list. He's got a super nice and sweet personality but can put his foot down when it comes to it so there're many sides to him :)
..lol i swore i wouldn't get into got7. thanks tuan.
