It seems like all Korean stars have been blessed with beautiful, gorgeous skin. While some of that is certainly due to their amazing genes, it’s also due to detailed and faithful skincare. While most of us can’t afford to go to expensive dermatologists however, we can certainly take advantage of the many wonderful products available to the general public.

Like many countries in Asia, South Korea is home to some of the most advanced skincare companies in the world! These great companies offer products for a variety of skin types and ages. While many of us splurge on decent makeup or quality BB creams, one of the areas we often cut corners on is cleansing. If you want gorgeous, glowing skin this summer, one of the first products you need to invest in is a good face wash. How do you know which cleanser is best for your skin though? Let’s check out the products recommended by our editors and writers in “The 8 Best Korean Face Washes for All Skin Types!”

1. Tony Moly Clean Dew Lemon Foam Cleanser (Oily Skin)

This foam cleanser says it’s good for all skin types, but it actually tends to work the very best for oily skin. The lemon extract provides a very thorough, deep cleanse and instantly provides a brighter complexion as well. When washing your face, only a small amount of the product is required each time. Because of that and the affordable price, this is a great cleanser for people on a budget as well. In addition, it’s packed with Vitamin C which promotes healthier skin. 2. Skinfood Wildberry Milk Cleansing Foam (Sensitive Skin)

I am a huge personal believer in Skinfood products. After struggling with skin issues for years, I finally tried several different products from this company and instantly fell in love! In my opinion, this foaming milk cleanser is one of the best face washes available, especially for dry or sensitive skin. It is extra-soothing and gives dry skin the hydration and moisture it needs, while still providing a deep cleanse as well. It can also be used for normal skin.

3. Missha Near Skin Extra Renew Cleansing Foam (Dry Skin)

This product focuses more on hydrating the skin instead of a providing a deep cleanse. The reason why? Ingredients used to achieve a deep cleanse can sometimes be harsh to the skin. If you struggle with really dry skin already, then you need to stay away from ingredients which will only add to your problem. This product provides a light cleanse and deep hydration, making it a great product for people with dry skin. (Recommended by ck525)

4. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam (Normal Skin)

For years now, Asian women have known about the benefits of using rice water as a skincare product. Used to brighten the complexion and prevent wrinkles, rice water is the main ingredient in this product by The Face Shop. Other ingredients also add to the powerful detoxifying properties in the face wash, cleansing the skin gently while leaving it soft and smooth as well. This is a great product for people who already have great skin but need a well-balanced product to maintain their youthful, natural glow.

5. Skinfood Parsley and Mandarin Mild Foam (Acne-Prone Skin)

Many acne issues are caused by bacteria and other impurities that become trapped in the layers of our skin. As a result, we develop redness and inflammation (along with blackheads, bumps, etc). This powerful wash contains several ingredients with natural antioxidants and antibacterial properties that work together to provide a super deep cleanse. Although some people say that the spicy scent of fruits and herbs is too strong, it still remains one of the best face washes for troubled skin by managing to cleanse the skin without over-drying it with harsh chemicals. (Recommended by Soomp)

6. Etude House Wonder Pore Whipping Foam (Large Pores)

While this product is slightly more expensive than most of the other items on this list, it is definitely worth every penny! This 7-in-1 product promises a lot of results such as deep cleaning your pores, balancing your skin’s PH level, controling sebum, and much more. However, does the product really fulfill all those promises? Most buyers agree that it does! Not only does it provide a thorough cleanse and immediate brightening effect, it also minimizes the appearance of your pores with time.

wash7-300x300

7. Nature Republic Collagen Dream Vitamin C Capsule Foam Cleanser (Anti-Aging)

Did you know some dermatologists recommend that people start using anti-aging products at around 13 years of age? Before we can even see the first line or wrinkle, the aging process has already begun its work on our skin. That’s why it is so important to establish a faithful skincare regimen. If you need an extra boost to repair damage to your skin, this product is filled with tiny Vitamin C capsules to brighten your skin tone or age spots. It’s also filled with collagen to help maintain the youthful elasticity of your skin.

wash8

8. Innisfree Apple Juicy Deep Cleansing Foam (Combination Skin)

Most people with combination skin struggle to find a product that can take care of their acne-prone areas without over-drying the rest of their skin. However, companies like Innisfree have produced some amazing items which will literally leave your skin squeaky-clean! At the same time though, it provides just the right amount of hydration without making the skin oily. The fresh apple scent is really nice as well.

I just started double cleansing and not sure how I feel about it yet.

Basically, I'm starting this routine:
http://intothegloss.com/2014/04/korean-beauty-skincare/

It is actually NOT as time consuming as I thought it would be! And then my skin looks so pretty afterwards.

I've started a similar routine and my skin has never been better- just made sure i looked at as many reviews as possible for all the products i own because i have sensitive skin- but I personally saw a bit difference. (then again i had a pretty dry but problem-less skin before)

I just want to get rid of my freckles/redness/dark spots now ;c

I've only tried the Rice Water one from this list. But I really liked it. I dunno why I didn't keep buying it after I ran out. I think I just wanted to try something new.

I was thinking of trying Wonder Pore next. I have one from Tony Moly right now that I'm on the fence about. :\

I use the Chocolate Latte cleansing foam from Missha, the smell is great and it really leaves my skin soft and amazing after using it! My skin is oily, I've noticed it really helps to control sebum as well.

It's important to get the correct ph cleanser though and I really wish companies were more forthcoming with that. I love the Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil, but it has a ph level over over 6 :/ so I need to find a new one.

Oooh I'll give a try to the SkinFood wildberry milk one when I'm done with my Face Shop 365peach one.
I've started asian skincare (and skincare in general really recently) so I'm on my first run with all the products- but I pretty much like them all? I'd like to try a new toner though if anyone has rec

oil cleanser : banila co. sherbet clean it zero
foam cleanser : the face shop 365 cleanser peach
toner & emulsion :secret key synake line (i'm 20 i don't even know why i buy the anti age stuff #paranoid)
essence: etude house like 20
cream : secret key snow white (i lost it somewhere in my house though- but since it's the summer i've been skipping it anyway)
eye cream: not really a cream but I *just* started using Tonymoly so cool panda's dream eye stick- awesome to apply thoughout the day
night cream: tony moly instense care dual effect sleeping pack

suncare: usually rely on my Saem green face brighter or Lioele dollish green BB cream and their 30 SPF when I'm in France. In the US or anywhere with much more evil sun and SPF I use some Neutrogena sunscreen I bought at Costco. Either ultra sheer dry touch 50 SPF in a tube- or when hiking or being outside a lot i just layer over the neutrogena stick (it's amazing yet non oily and it feels hydrating) 70 SPF

I also do weekly tonymoly's tomatox mask (just bought it too- yay for the TM shop in NY) and a random sheet mask i bought in the asian neighborhood for 1 dollar after because my face gets stripped of oils so fast.

I don't exfoliate. my skin is dry enough and i don't have much dead skin? even if i did exfioliating would just strip my skin and create more dead skin + redness and irritation. I use a gentle scrub maybe once every blue moon when the seasons change tbh

ah I just love to apply just when i wake up Bioderma solution micellaire on my skin- or after toner in the evenings- I just love the feel of the water on my skin haha. And I'm french so this is literally the only thing I've used on my skin for years before going 10 step routine, I love it.

I don't know how true this is so take it with a grain of salt BUT I heard that you shouldn't use eye sticks because basically you're stretching out the skin under your eyes when you glide it across.

I have been told you put your eye cream/gel before serums bc a lot of serums are not tested in the eye area. You're supposed to use your ring finger to lightly dab the eye cream around your eye (even above under the eyebrow)

Double cleansing is my life. I can never get everything off without it.

I use L'Oréal Sublime Cleansers Sensational Cleansing Oil and St. Ives apricot cleanser/deep cleaning if I wear makeup. On days I don't wear makeup I use Clinique Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser and Marcelle Soothing Cleansing Water.

Cleansing water is LIFE, and the best lazy day skin care trick EVER.

My sister uses The Face Shop's Skinfood Parsley and Mandarin Mild Foam (she has acne, teenager) and their Cleansing Cream from the same line (I used this stuff sometimes, it's like an oil cleanser but soothing).

Bookmarked 5 and when I have money I'll purchase it, hopefully it's simple routine...since the products I use are just wash on my face etc etc.

I have acne mostly on my chin and cheek, and the products I use haven't been helping much. I have a pore cleaner thing and I often get those little white spots on my face, dunno what they're called.

I have a bad habit of mixing cleansers (I was told you're not supposed to do that but yolo) and it works out fine for me.

Funny story: I went to the faceshop and asked for a recommendation on a cleanser and they told me the Rice one and the girl went "It's really good for whitening--" and looked mortified bc I'm a darkskinned black person so I think she thought she had offended me?? And then tried to backpedal really hard.

But it does work, my friend said it destroyed her tan and honestly my face isn't...necessarily whiter but it has more of a translucent/shiny quality to it than my body?

I find myself unable to commit to skincare routines that require more than one step and products that cost more than $8, so I've been using home remedies and they're equally if not more effective I've found.

oops. Being in sales mode can trip you up. Once I told a tourist that "NYC is great. You can get WHATEVER you want as long as you have money" and I realized after a few seconds of silence that they thought I was suggesting they get a hooker or something. It was awkward and I was hoping for another customer to come in and it ended with me babbling and the guy running out as soon as he could.

Interested in the home remedies you're using. Mind sharing some tips or where to find more info? Thanks.

I mean, I pretty much use lush products non stop, the only time I'll use anything else is for face masks because they are just so easy to use. You just like slap em on lol. IDK I don't really get zits so I just prefer gentle exfoliation that leave my skin feeling soft.

That said, the holika holika pig nose blackhead clearer thing is GREAT, it really works well.

My face has been possessed recently and it's giving me the sads. D: I know my almost complete lack of skin care isn't helping anything, but because of different health issues (especially my hand coordination problems) it's really hard for me to maintain anything regular (I'm also almost incapable of washing my face at a sink, I have to do it in the shower). I also have a few types of acne (that thankfully don't show up ALL the time) that can only be treated with medication that... I can't take. *shakes fist at the universe*

My favorite thing about double cleansing are grits. Gross, I know, but I'm the type who stares at people' blackheads and sebaceous filaments lol.
I even made my mom try my banila co balm + local brand sage cleanser and now she gets asked is she did any lifiting procedure :p she scarred her face last year, it doesn't affect the damaged parts which is nice. I have rosacea and had to be careful with mineral oil at first. I just started using missha aloe fermented foam and it's good, gentle but does it job. Shame it irrates my mom.

There is no need for such elaborated routine. Just pick and choose what work best for your skin. Layering does wonder for my combo skin in winter but not so much during summer.

so I recently discovered the /r/AsianBeauty subreddit and, well, I'm suddenly overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge I have about asian skincare/Korean skincare routines in general. I thought I had figured out the next haul of products to start a new routine, but now I have no idea haha.

I do currently use the grapefruit version of the Tonymoly cleanser but it doesn't really seem to help my skin at all. I do appreciate that it doesn't dry my skin out like cleansers I've bought from Stateside companies.

I really wish I'd known about the importance of pH in cleansers a decade ago when my skin first started freaking out. Thinking back on all the cleansers I've gone through in my desperation to fix my face, I really cringe at the thought of all the damage I've probably done. That said, I'm really enjoying my current products. I alternate between The Face Shop's Rice Water Cleansing Oil and Banila's Clean It balm as for the first step in my double cleansing routine, and then Whamisa's Organic Flowers Foam Cleansing Cream and Su:m37's Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick as the second. I won't pretend my skin is flawless and blemish-free, but it's significantly softer and healthier now than it's been in a good long while.

So how necessary is double cleansing? I tried it before with a cleansing oil + foam cleanser but after a while I felt it was a bit of a hassle and got lazy.... so I switched to just a micellar water (Bioderma Sebium for oily skin) before my foam cleanser.

Date: 2015-07-24 11:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] imienazwisko.livejournal.com

If you use bb creams, sunblocks etc it can pile up on your skin and double cleansing is necessary. Just from experience, after few weeks of double cleansing I noticed I have less clogged pores. I used micellar water for years but I had to use like 5-8 cotton pads to get all make up etc from my face and it was annoying :p
Oil is good for cleansing because sebum is an oil too and in chemistry the same thing dissolves the same thing. While massaging, oil gets into your pores and loosens the dirt inside, making it pop out and clear your face.
