Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood' & 2NE1's 'Come Back Home' Video Similarities Surface in VMA Spat

In the wake of Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj's "Anaconflict," a new potential issue has been brought to light for the 1989 star.

Outlets like Jezebel, the Daily Mail, the Mirror and Kpopstarz have picked up fan discussion that Swift's "Bad Blood" video, which was released last May and received seven nods for the upcoming 2015 MTV VMAs, is visually very similar to the music video for "Come Back Home," the 2014 single by massive K-pop girl group 2NE1.

One Twitter user put it: "Can we talk about how Taylor's video isn't original and was copied from a group of four women of color, 2NE1" with screenshots comparing both visuals.

As Jezebel's culture editor Julianne Escobedo Shepherd notes, the "Bad Blood" video was directed by South Korea-born Joseph Kahn, who recently spoke to The Korea Times about how he was getting back to his "Korean roots."

As 2NE1 continues to make waves in America (including earning the highest-charting K-pop album ever last year, garnering stateside radio play this year as well as announcing plans for a full-fledged U.S. debut from leader CL), it wouldn't be a stretch to think the director, at some point, saw the K-pop visual with more than 39 million views on YouTube.

"Come Back Home" was directed by new, South Korea-based director Dee Shin. Watch both and decide for yourself:

I can't believe you and others are making the plagiarism accusations into a race and racism issue even though the blood video was directed by a South Korean.

This is why I keep saying so many people are uneducated about racism (it's not just white people) so many people like to throw out popular terms such as poc, woc or Blackface without actually having any proper knowledge on what these terms are supposed to describe and how they are actually used within different academic disciplines.

Does anyone know what the context of a scene means? Plagiarism when it comes to film is completely different from photography. You can not take a still image of a video and compare it to another. You must take the scene into account not STILL IMAGES? Similar shots for MVs are done all of the time. Don't understand what I'm saying? Let me go into more detail. One of the shots that someone called out was of the part with Minzy in the car in Come Back Home and they compared it to Taylor Swift in the car jamming with Kendrick. Is this plagiarism? Not at all. Why? Because the content and the context of the entire scenes were completely different. Therefore they are only similar in the way it was shot (angles and etc etc).

someone made a really cool gifset of how taylor's mv was sci fi/action movie/tv show match up. daredevil, the fifth element, tron, sucker punch, kingsman, the hunger games, etc.

and 2ne1's come back home was probably the same thing imo. they're similar because they both use the same films for reference.

I think the overall result is very different (2ne1 is way better produced. BB has some shitty special effects lol), but there are scenes similar (I think everything similar is in this screencap on the post for what I can remember)
this is going around since bad blood release. the fact that the director is south korean is brand new information for me tho...

Nicki tweeted about being angry at MTV for not putting anaconda in the video of the year nominations, even tho it broke records and stuff. She then said that if it was about celebrating skinny women, it would have been nominated.

Taylor then responded on twitter saying that its not like nicki to put two women against each other.

Nicki tweeted back like gurl did you read what I wrote I never mentioned you (People think she is talking about miley's wrecking ball, since it was controversial but because it was a white women, it got nominated last year)

And then taylor was like 'if i win ill bring you on stage with meee'

And then nicki started faving a bunch of tweets calling taylor out, and calling how racist the media is, at painting nicki as the angry black women, and taylor as the victim etc

I didn't think BB was even pretending to be original ... it's a whole collection of SF/Action movie cliches. Not going to watch it a second time to refresh my memory, though.

You can see the visual fingerprints of the Matrix and Fifth Element all over both, though CBH actually goes somewhere kind of interesting with it, rather than just amusing.

I actually really loved 1989 (and have plans to see her in August). I've been a fan since her first album while she was still doing country but during this promotion era, she has been so fucking extra. I really don't think she knows the difference between feminism and white feminism. She needs to get one of her many friends to teach her about intersectionality. I love her usually, but she is absolutely in the wrong and needs to own up.

I watched Bad Blood once (it was advertised on tumblr as an action mv!! with fierce ladies!!! and then there was no action and I was so disappointed) and I can't remember it being similar to CBH.
