Cleopatra’s turn to remove his mask finally came, after much speculation as to his identity and many memorable performances. And it seems he was, to some capacity, relieved. He said, “Mom, I can finally say it now,” although, fans of the show were more or less already certain of Cleopatra’s identity.

He says, finally showing his face, “I’m Kim Yeon Woo, as you may already have known. The secretive atmosphere, despite everyone pretty much knowing, was really fun. I was in our apartment elevator with two other people – they were a couple. They weren’t saying anything, but suddenly as they were getting off, they said, ‘It’s you, right? You’re Cleopatra?’ I remember saying no, and denying. Those kinds of things were really fun, too.”

:C Oh well, it had to happen eventually. Tungki is 100% Lee Jung. As soon as I heard him I knew, he really didn't try to hide it at all. He gave great performances, as expected, but I think he won a lot of votes with his theatrics (which he's already known for). I know it counts but that feels more like Immortal Songs' concept than this show imo.
I want Ha Dong Kyun to come on the show and defeat his bff but that's unlikely to heppen since he's basically a hermit.

If only! When he first came on Immortal Songs it was his first TV appearance in ~6 years, I was so surprised and happy because I though it meant we'd be seeing more of him but he only came back once on IS (and won) and that was it TT

Lee Jung's voice is very recognized even if you're not a fan tbh.

OP, what is the concept of this show? Sing until people recognize their voice?

They compete based on vocal abilities against another 1 vs 1 at a time, the audience votes and when you lose and basically get eliminated your identity is revealed. The winner of each round progress on and head off against other winners. As long as you keep on winning your identity remains behind the mask. The final winner of the new batch of contestants will go into a battle with the undefeated winner from previous weeks (i.e Luna and Kim Yeon Woo) Then whoever wins this final round sits on the throne to face off others in coming week(s).

But yeah the panel (of comedians and other singers) will hazard guesses after their performance. But correctly guessing the identity of the singer doesn't play into how long they stay on the show.

I think it's different. In IS they re-arrange the songs and give big show-like performances. Here the whole point is that it's about singing ability no matter who you are. That's why the contestants are asked to hide who they are as long as possible.
The ones with a recognizable voice will try to change it. Kim Yeon-woo's voice is very recognizable (in Korea anyway) so in his first couple performances he clearly made an effort to change it. Or they can also create a sort of stage persona like Sandeul who made himself seem older with the way he was singing, his actions.
That's part of the show but what I find disappointing is that Lee Jung didn't try at all. His voice is already easily recognizable but the way he performed as well made it all the more obvious. He performed the same he would have for an IS performance.

Mask Singer should be more interesting since singer has the opportunity to reinvent themselves with singing different style from what they usually do.
