Bae Yong-joon’s Travel Essay Becomes a Bestseller
A travel book written by Actor Bae Yong-joon of the “Winter Sonata” fame has gone into its tenth printing in just seven days since it was first marketed. Titled “A Journey to Find the Beauty of Korea,” the travel essay topped the travel book bestseller category in major bookstores. Also the first batch of its Japanese version has all been sold out in Japan and another shipment has been ordered.
The popularity of the book is attributed to not only the banking power of Bae, but also the detailed descriptions and sincerity of his writing. He reportedly traveled all over the country himself to find beautiful traditions and sights of Korea. Bae said that he was motivated to write this travel book when he was asked in a Japanese press conference to introduce a beautiful place in Korea and couldn’t name even one location.
The book’s publisher says that the book features very high quality printing, so it takes twice as long to print. The printing company will be working throughout the Chuseok holiday to meet the deadline. The publishing company also says that the book may be printed in English as well to meet the soaring demands.
Bae Yong-jun Denounces Term "Korean Wave"

Actor Bae Yong-jun, who is known as a "Korean Wave" star, says he wishes the term "Korean Wave" were not used.
Bae made his remark during a meeting with journalists after an event that marked the publishing of his book on the beauty of Korea on September 30. "'Korean Wave' has become a trite phrase. I wish it were replaced with something like 'cultural exchange'," said the actor.
Bae once expressed displeasure with an article about him that was entitled "Kneeling In Front Of Korean Wave." "Once such news reports are published in Korea, they are cited in other countries as well. We need to put more thought into what is more beneficial for Korea," said Bae.
Ethan Ruan can’t beat Bae Yong-joon’s aunty-killer charms

For the opening ceremony dinner organized by DATV (Discover Asia Enta! Television), a new Japanese satellite channel, Korean actor Bae Yong-joon and Taiwanese idol Ethan Ruan were invited to attend this ceremonious occasion held in Tokyo last week. Superstars in their respective countries, the pair took to the red carpet and did their home countries proud with their presence.
Known for his aunty-killer looks, when Bae strode down the red carpet, his presence ignited ear-piercing screams from the older ladies present. They started to shuffle and squeeze each other to sneak a little peek of their endearing idol. There was an estimate of over 1,000 fans present as they lined the pavements and bridges above.
In response to his ardent fans’ thunderous welcome, Bae waved his hand and smilingly responded, “Thank you, I will continue to present my works to thank everyone”.
At 11 years younger than Bae, Ruan made his entrance next with seemingly lesser cheers and screams from the crowd present. Despite being a lesser-known name in Japan, a boyish Ruan’s charming good looks won him a few screams from the ladies present with the Japanese media going into a photo-taking frenzy.
Unfazed by the lack of claps he received, Ruan good-naturedly commented, “In the past, nobody bothered about me. Whenever I stand beside Joe Cheng, people would start calling out ‘Xiao Zhong’ (Joe’s pet name). I am very used to it already.”
At the dinner, the pair took photos together and Ruan even greeted his Bae in Korean, receiving a warm smile and wave in return.
