BREATH-TAKING CHARM: GOT7 SUPER BOY JUNIOR

Junior's real name is Park Jinyoung, and he has made quite the imprint on the eyes of viewers with his role as the top star Ji Eunho's (played by Joo Jinmo) teenage self, Park Hyunsoo, in the drama My love Eundong, Junior is his stage name made with the meaning , the junior of the company's head who bears the same name, 'JYP Park Jinyoung.' He made headlines with his deep performance that blew away any prejudice against idols, yet he's already a fourth year actor, Starting with Dream High 2 and then progressing to When a man loves and web drama Dream Knight, the acting experience he's stacked up shined through in this work. Let's erase that fresh 17-year-old rebel Hyunsoo and meet Got7's 'cutie.'


Got7's new album has been released. How do you feel?
Our new album finally came out on July 13. Originally, I was the typical night owl type, but perhaps because I was nervous, starting a month ago, I've found myself waking up early in the morning. Because I want to start the day early, I've been exercising a lot in the morning.

Have the preparations for your comeback been coming along well?
With our title track, Just Right, we've transformed into a boyish concept. On the day we shot the music video, because of the hard work the members put in to practicing the choreography, we finished all the preparations for our performances, and now, of course, the members are individually focusing on developing their expressiveness in front of camera.

You received positive comments on your performance as the teenage Park Hyunsoo in JTBC My love Eundong.
It's my fourth time challenging acting, but My love Eundong was the first work I've done that showed my capabilities. my mom screencapped all the good comments and showed them to me. I'm glad that the reactions were good, but I'm a bit doubtful and up until now, I still don't believe those kinds of evaluations. I was really not good during the audition and script reading, so it was extremely embarrassing.

It seems like you were intimidated after receiving some harsh open criticism during the script reading.
No. because of the nature of the job, the people around me tend to say, 'Good job, good job,' too much so on the contrary, I'm the type that likes being criticized.(laughs) It even becomes a motivation for me especially when I'm acting and I'd rather listen to something that i can learn.

Is there a behind-the-scene story behind your casting?
After finishing a performance in Japan, I took an airplane at dawn, and as soon as I arrived at the airport, I left for the audition. As a result, I had given up hope and challenged the audition with the mindset of, "Let's just try this for fun", and for some reason, chatting with the director turned out to be interesting. of course, I did receive criticism as well during that time. Therefore, I decided to audition one more time and went again after preparing for it, but that day was the day of the entire script reading, I was flustered and hurriedly performed, so that day was extremely hard on me. Therefore, I don't even know how much I persistently prepared for the first filming.

You definitely made an imprint on the viewers with your crying scene where you pine for Eundongie.
It was really difficult. Two weeks passed by the time we filmed that scene, and because I had to remain immersed in the situation, I kept becoming sad. We filmed the scene a total of eight times, yet in the end, they used the first cut. When I finished filming, my voice had gone completely hoarse. Fortunately, I received positive feedback and was glad, but after watching the broadcast, I feel the regret of, 'But I could have done better'.

What do you want to try for your next project?
Even if I only come out on one episode, I hope it is a work that I can become deeply immersed in. I received a recommendation to do a historical drama, and if I were to do it, I am more interested in the role of a nobleman with a fate that takes a strange unlucky turn of events than a young rich master.

Amongst Got7, if you were to recommend a member with a talent for acting?
i recommend Jackson and Youngjae. Jackson is a friend with such enormous amount of energy that if he were to do a sitcom, he'd be successful. Since Youngjae does well even when he seems like he's acting without any thoughts, I think the real life-like acting is just the right job for him.

You filmed a telecommunications CF with AOA Seolhyun. What are your thoughts on filming your very first solo CF?
I also went through an audition for that. I worked hard with my manager in the audition video that we filmed on a cell phone and sent. Even though it didn't show on the surface, we filmed it so many times.(laughs) I received compliments that my historical drama tone was natural but I had practiced extremely hard in order to pass the audition.

At the beginning of Got7's debut, you showcased the acrobatic martial arts tricking, but this time, you changed into a completely differently feeling.
There are pros and cons when doing martial arts tricking. I feel like the concept this time was indeed able to show the natural image of the age that I am right now. In the future, GOT7 will become a group who can absorb and show any sort of image, it'd be great if our team nickname was the water-dols who will fill and conform to any bowl that they are put into.

The sunbae who says good things to you during practice?
2PM's Jang Wooyoung hyung, if I am practicing, he will take me aside and say things to me like, "Is practice going well? When you practice, don't think of other things, you must concentrate." He sure is a sunbae I am thankful towards for treating me not just a hoobae but like a real younger brother.

Your name has begun to spread actively, so what are your future ambitions?
This year, I definitely want to leave a "So GOT7 are these kind of kids' type of impression in the minds of the public. First of all, I want to show a carefree image while focusing on Got7's album, and personally as well. If I can take part in good productions that suit my capabilities, there is nothing more that I can hope for.

Thinking Back...
"If I think back to that first filming day, I get nervous again.(laugh) it was a test filming scene, where I was talking with Eundongie, lying on the grass, starting with the line, 'Patrasche must have gone home, right?' When I'm acting, the most difficult time is when I can feel myself thinking about how I am acting. However, at that time, I was so deeply immersed that I couldn't even remember how I managed to act, and as soon as i heard the 'Cut' Sound, I was completely drained of my strength. That night, we had a staff dinner, and the words Joo Jinmo sunbaenim said to me in passing, 'You need to arouse that nostalgic feeling of 20 years ago,' stuck in my head, and I really worked hard to do so. After finished the filming for the child parts, I still haven't been able to meet up with him yet, but now I should visit sunbaenim and properly receive an evaluation, right?"

I just want to sit down with Jinyoung, drink some good tea, and talk for hours to no end. He is just so refreshingly unassuming and just plain interesting lol

I'm a perfectionist too, so I can see why he is so hard on himself, but I still hope he eases up a little on himself because it can be hard. I'm sure the members will help him, especially fanboy Jackson Wang lol
