JYP Entertainment has issued its second apology regarding the controversial choosing of its upcoming girl group Twice after the initial finale episode aired on July 7th.
The controversy arose after previously eliminated trainee Momo was unprecedentedly added to the final lineup of Twice by J.Y. Park.
After choosing its seven members, which many viewers understood the number to be the amount of members Twice would carry at the beginning of the SIXTEEN broadcast, the producer shockingly revealed during the airing that he was choosing an additional two members.
J.Y. Park chose Tzuyu as the 8th member of Twice, and shockingly chosen netizen-eliminated trainee Momo as the 9th.
JYP Entertainment issued its second statement reading:
“Hello. This is JYP Entertainment.
Regarding the SIXTEEN selection process.
We would like to show our deepest thanks to all the feedback we have received. We apologize for failing to clearly communicate the selection process, and we’d like to explain in detail the selection process.
Openly recruited 7 + Specially chosen 2
The final member selection criteria of the program were carried out through missions shown to viewers, and the JYP staff, viewer votes, and the audience’s votes overall was used to select the members. Even before the final episode, it was already decided that the seven members would be elected through a selection process but the thought that it may leave some regrets, one member was chosen solely by viewers’ voting (Tzuyu) and another was chosen by J.Y. Park PD (Momo).
As a result, the final decision became 7 openly recruited and 2 specially chosen, we apologize that we did not relay this method to viewers properly, and humbly accept all the criticism we have received for the show’s controversial items including its harshness.
While trying to get the audience closer to the show through a new format, and trying to find harmony of both the broadcasting station and our company’s goals, there were a lot of shortcomings. We ask for your understanding, and in the future, we will do our best to give you more satisfying results.”
The final lineup is Nayeon, Jungyeon, Dahyun, Mina, Sana, Jihyo, Tzuyu, Chaeyoung, and Momo.

Date: 2015-07-14 06:31 am (UTC)tbh, i think dahyun shouldn't have debuted. she just sounds like she's speaking really fast and has such weak vocals (which twice has plenty of.) Chaeyoung is sufficient for the rapper position.

Date: 2015-07-14 06:57 am (UTC)but fine. they still should've included jiwon. this group needs vocals and even a couple are "decent" you still have like 5 deadweights

Date: 2015-07-14 09:03 am (UTC)It still amuses so much that JYP is having his "GG group" before YG, despite all the mediaplay.
I would be really happy (yeah new girlsband!) if I knew Miss A would still get comebacks but even without another girlsband, they barely release music so...

Date: 2015-07-14 03:41 pm (UTC)The 2 special selection was probably an excuse made up after the show. Like they (or most probably jyp himself) didn't think there would be this much backlash so they quickly thought up the idea for damage control. It didn't make sense otherwise to leave out imo the most important info of the whole show--the group selection process. There's a lot of explanation on other things...god knows jyp loves explaining things in detail.

Date: 2015-07-14 11:27 am (UTC)This is kpop, I don't care if they sing well or not (I like more than 30 groups and only one of them for their talent). So I'm okay with this girls because pretty much all of them are natural in the stage. And JYP said thousand of times that for idol groups he's not looking only at that. For talents he has his artists too. After this show I trust a lot JYP's "eyes". I was agreeing with pretty much all he said, even if later the management of the groups can be messy.
PS: Still sad Jiwon is not in the group.

Date: 2015-07-14 01:47 pm (UTC)That being said, I am happy Momo is in the group because she seems to fit more with the selected girls than Chaeryeong would have.

Date: 2015-07-14 09:36 pm (UTC)That killed me so much. She totally was expecting it to be her after he mentioned "dance and performance". And then he says Momo and when the camera shows her again, she's bursting out in tears. I was so sad for her :((((

Date: 2015-07-14 02:52 pm (UTC)like the elimination thing was probably a little confusing but here's how I saw it: from the minute he said there was no one else to switch from minor to major, that was the end. everyone else was eliminated - so tzuyu, chaeryeong, minyoung, somi, and natty were eliminated along with momo, jiwon, eunsuh, and the other chae girl. by adding the two extra members, it was from the pool of the entire eliminated members listed above. it's confusing, but I see where he's getting at lol.
idk I just find this whole "controversy" unnecessary. like jinwoon was technically eliminated from hot blood but was a member of 2am anyway lol~!! IDK GUYS LONG STORY SHORT CAN'T WE JUST BE HAPPY

Date: 2015-07-14 03:33 pm (UTC)This outcome would be inevitable in any survival/competition show, you develop attachment with the contestants, and if they don't make it, you'd unhappy for sure.
But JYP himself said at the beginning that he won't 'throw away' eliminated members - so I think it's okay, the younger girls can use the additional years of training.
Can we just support them? They look happy in their instagram posts! They can prove to us whether they are worthy to be stan of or not later after debut, why we should doubt them from now?

Date: 2015-07-14 09:34 pm (UTC)This lineup is perfect tbh (even without my fav Jiwon). People complaining about Momo are basically Somi and Natty stans being salty.
