Article talks about how there are a lot of idol groups that are just 'show window idols' or only friends with one another for business sake and their fans.

Aside from SECRET, there are a few blind items like girl group A whose member B's rise in popularity has caused the rest of the members to have no schedules aside from official promotions. B has long since stopped being friends with her groupmates and reps say that their relationship is beyond the point of repair.


One rep said, "As for group A, B will shoot her album jacket picture separately from the rest of the members and photoshop her in. A's promotions are difficult because of that."

As for boy group C, the members seem close in public but they actually rarely contact each other outside of their schedules. They have good relationships with members from other groups in their agency but but struggle with coming together as a group due to personality clashes.

Fortunately for C, just because they're not close doesn't mean there's discord. The members all agree that it's important that they maintain their group. They voluntarily call themselves 'business partners' and recognize that they need each other for business purposes.

C's rep said, "Not all co-workers can be close for simply working together. You're also not going to quit just because you don't have any close co-workers. Idol groups are the same in that even if they're not close, they work towards the same goal and smile for their fans because of that."

Girl group D is similar to C. The members are known for being the intimidating types and suffered rumors where a member was allegedly bullying another member. There hasn't been any problems on the surface however because they're quite professionals.

D's members only meet during the group's official promos. They all have individual activities with solos, acting, and featurings so they don't really even have the time to take care of the other. Because they got so popular individually in a situation where they weren't even close, they don't act like they're close either. When group promos begin, however, they turn 180 degrees and act as close as ever, putting an end to all of the rumors of discord spread between their fans.

Another rep had to say, "It's important that a group synergizes. All of the members play a role in the maintenance of a group. If one leaves, the team breaks apart. Seeing senior teams break apart has made idol groups realize the importance of keeping it all together. Even if there is discord, they usually try to keep it out of the public's eye for the sake of the team."

Eh, C's okay (I mean they all are, really). Being friends is nice and helps, but as long as they get work done without any fuss/no one being a shit there's nothing wrong with being just co-workers either.

C is the only one that's a bit of a question. My initial thought was Shinee, so I was surprised that netizens didn't bring them up, but maybe it's because they have seemed closer recently. Anyway, if I was seeing the same 4-6 people all the time at schedules, would I really want to see them during my free time too? You do you, group C.

imo, the fact that netizens didn't bring them up when they very obviously... could have goes to show. that and how the only people mentioning them are i-fans who're, mostly, not their fan. like it isn't a bad way to go about things, at all, it's professional and is probably gonna keep whatever group it is from disbanding anytime soon but i still don't think it's shinee, shrug.

tbh, "c" could really be anyone. (even though i don't think it's big bang, suju or shinee.) all groups start out as business ventures. in the long run what matters is whether or not the members are able to develop deeper / more personal relationships out of that. (and that doesn't mean being "best" friends - there's more than one way to care about someone, obv.)

Suju? Not all members are equally close but some actually go out of their way to go on holidays together in their free time, LOL.

Actually whoever group C is, their relationship as described here seems pretty healthy to me? They don't have to be extremely close or hang out together all the time, but they don't have discord, they work well together and they are committed to their group with a common goal. Some groups might not even have this.

If this was 2010-12 I'd guess SHINee for C as well, but things have changed a lot and idk why people keep bringing that Key's comment from 2010 or saying that they don't hang out together when there's plenty of fanccounts proving that they indeed do, just not always and not all of them together. They even confirmed it in an interview from 2013-2014 that they usually hang out in groups of 2-3 people in their private time so idk why people seem so fixated in the idea that everytime there's a rumor about a group not being close it's them.

I'm actually suspecting of Infinite because iirc they recently said they've drifted apart.

i suspect C is also infinite. and i think they drifted apart since Diss is Infinite, they even mentioned it there. and i think they're never really naturally close to each other, more like they're forced to be together all the time as trainees and at beginning of their career. but there's a point about close with other group members from same company and woollim doesnt have other boy group so...

Agreed! I like my work colleagues enough but I'd rather not spend my time outside of work with them, thank you very much. I have other people in my life too. And I'm only with these people on a 5 days a week, 9-5 (9-9 really but whatevs) basis, imagine what it would be like for idols who have to live together!

I think it is true for most groups. You are lumped together with a group of people for a job. In the best outcome you get close with one person but that might not happen or you are only close to that person when you are around each other. Kinda like how you have people you are friendly with at work but you dont really talk to them outside the workplace or hang out.

I would say that at first it sound like group A is Miss A. But Jia and Fei do things outside official promotions, but in China. Not sure what Min does because I care less about her (sorry girl haha). Suzy was popular since practically the beginning, so I don't know why the things would change after five years. @ whole freinds/not freinds agenda: the pure fact that you're not hanging out with somebody after work does not have to mean you're not friends, it's just can be that your friendship kinda fullfills itself during job hours? Like idols have tons of waiting/travelling, that's a lot of time to do things which friends do together. And you also need you alone time/time with other people/friends or generally just separate time to actually have things to talk about bc if you're all the time with that second person it's suffocaiting and you're pretty much start to hate each other etc.

I think C is stupid, tbh. Aren't all groups like that at some point in their career. People grow closer and apart all the time, and if you already spend most of your working time together is it not natural to want some time apart too. Like, what?

Does it really matter though? Do they have to be friends? And idk about everyone else, but there are times in my life where I'm closer to some friends than I am others, but in a cpl of years it can totally flip flop. The only exception is my bff who no matter what, we're bff/sisters.

As you get older and develop new interests sometimes you stop having things in common, so ofc you spend less time talking/hanging out. IMO Group A is the only one that's a tad distressing bc with that kind of tension you can't really work to the best of your abilities.

Being an idol is still a job - maybe a ~dream job~ for some, but still a job.

C - i think their situation is OK. at least there's no need to disband. whoever they are, if they consistently come out with good music, i think its totally OK if they're not real-life BFF's. i actually think C is B2ST (i love B2ST, btw). some are close but not all. they do enjoy each others company as it seem but they have different personalities and interest. they just work well together because they love what they are doing and they love their fans.

I don't think "stans" are trying to convince anyone. People are saying that they don't hang out together in private and people who follow them are simply saying that they do and there are proofs of it and the members themselves have said it in recent interviews when they're not the type that fake a friendship for the fans. If you take out the part about 'relationships with other groups in their agency' it could be so many groups though, it's not a negative thing at all and completely understandable.

I don't know Sistar that well but they were my first guess for D. It almost doesn't even warrant being a blind item lol, who cares honestly.
