Kim Jun-su features in theater arts magazine for ‘Death Note’

K-pop singer and musical actor Kim Jun-su, a member of trio JYJ, has been featured in cultural and theatrical arts magazine Scene Playbill.
Kim is currently cast in the musical “Death Note,” based on the cult Japanese manga and anime series of the same name.
Kim lays private detective L, who investigates a supernatural notebook that grants its user the ability to kill people by writing their names in the notebook.
“It wasn’t easy to act L at first because everything from the tone of his voice to his expression to his gait and bodily gestures are very unusual,” said Kim, a fan of the original manga series. “However, I’m acting by searching for the point where the original character and what I wish to feel and express meet.”
Kim is an award-winning musical actor, who won Best Musical Actor at the 18th Korea Musical Awards in 2012. He also won Most Popular Musical Actor at the event for four straight years between 2010 to 2013.
The 28-year-old star notably won plaudits for musicals “Mozart!” and “Elizabeth” in 2010.
“I was able to take on this musical because of the star-studded cast. Please particularly look forward to one duet that I sing with top musical actor, Hong Kwang-ho,” said Kim.
Kim’s costar Hong plays an evil high school student, Lighto, in the same “Death Note” production.
The “Death Note” manga series was published between 2003 and 2006, followed by a popular anime TV series. The Japanese-language musical adaptation ran earlier this year.
The Korean musical adaptation of “Death Note” lifted its curtains on June 20 and will be running until Aug. 9 at the Seongnam Arts Center Opera House, Seoul.
The full interview and photoshoot with Kim has been published in Scene Playbill’s July issue.

Date: 2015-07-06 02:24 pm (UTC)And Hong Kwangho was really great. His voice just kills me. I originally learned about the musical because of Junsu but I actually went to go see it because of Kwangho.

Date: 2015-07-06 04:36 pm (UTC)But man, Rem stole the show. Her voice, her expressions, her posture. And the chemistry between her and Misa, even through the reels is stunning. I don't know a lick of korean, but I want to see this anyway, because it simply looks majestic, ahhhh.

Date: 2015-07-07 07:59 am (UTC)I've heard great things about the shinigami characters from various reviews, which is awesome. I adore the costuming for Lem. Beautiful makeup. Desperately hoping CJeS will release some kind of DVD or at least a cast recording album. I just want to experience the whole thing in some possible way, since seeing it in person isn't possible. SOBBING. Stuck here listening to Junsu belting out The Game Begins on loop, which... no complaints... but I WANT MORE!

my only complaint is that the ending was really rushed but then again i understand why it went the day it did considering the timespan of the show.. i'm just salty i didn't get to see light's dad die.. or the awkward foot massage lol

Date: 2015-08-01 03:22 am (UTC)I've never been to a musical, but omg *make a wish on a currently nonexistent shooting star* how awesome would it be to have that be my first ever musical? Sigh, back to reality lol. The vids, wow! Do they ever release an OST of the musical? Because from what I hear I like the songs.
Also have you read the manga? Is it any good?

Not sure about OST, but there's this genius song Junsu performs - The Game Begins:

Date: 2015-08-02 01:53 am (UTC)The only reason I knew of Death Note was because of Junsu lol, but I'll definitely look into ordering it in the near future since you seemed to have liked it too. Thanks for the reply! I actually just started my first manga series a couple months back, so I kind of want to finish that first.

Date: 2015-08-03 09:27 am (UTC)Ah, I see! If you need manga recs, I'd be more than happy to oblige. I have read/watched more than 300 manga/anime :D

Date: 2015-08-04 01:48 am (UTC)I was at a used bookstore and was surprised to see they had a manga/anime section, so I went to look and was a little overwhelmed with all the choices. I asked a girl I saw for a recommendation and she told me Inuyasha was a classic, so that's what I'm currently reading.
I wouldn't want to read anything super scary, but other than that I'm open for suggestions :) And do you buy them or read them online?
cute kid gifs, just because.

Date: 2015-08-04 03:57 pm (UTC)NANA, Chang Ge Xing (I'm dying after this one), Paradise Kiss, The One (by Nicky Lee), Love so Life, Gu fang bu zi shang (made after a Chinese novel, I have the novel too if you want it), Naruto, Death Note, Kimi ni Todoke, Cheonsaeng yeonbun, Cherry boy that girl, Aishiteruze Baby, Noblesse, Girls of the Wild's, Bleach (but I stopped reading after 200+), Vampire Knight (stopped after 83, it became messy), Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu, Hapi Mari, Desire Climax (R-rated), Elfen Lied (it's quite heavy, just so you know), Honey x Honey Drops (R-rated), Koizora (but better watch the film, prepare your kleenex), Private Prince (funny), Ouran High School Host Club, Special A, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (heavy stuff later on).
The first 6 are my absolute all time faves. But overwise there are loads. I haven't included many of the manga that fans like to read, cause they can be much heavier. The ones I gave you are mostly romance, some are cute, some are more real (my fave kind), some are historical. Take your pick basically :D
