Four “couples” test the boundaries of their relationship when they decide to cohabitate without stepping through the threshold of marriage first. The Lover” is a 2015 South Korean drama series directed by Kim Tae Eun.

Couple Apt. 609

Oh Do Si [35] (Oh Jung Se) and Ryoo Doo Ri  [31] (Ryu Hyun Kyung) are in their 30s and have been living together for two years. As Do Si works as a voice-over actor and Doo Ri runs a blog, it’s hard to tell that the loving couple is anything but a married couple who support one another through their daily trials and triumphs.

Choi Jin Nyeo [33] (Choi Yeo Jin) is a frugal older woman who lives with her much younger boyfriend, Jeong Yeong Joon [21] (Jung Joon Young), a lackadaisical man who carries a guitar around everywhere although he doesn’t even know how to play it. Although Jin Nyeo is supporting Young Joon, he finds ways to get under her good graces with his youthful charms. They have been living together for a year.

Ha Seol Eun [28](Ha Eun Sul) and Park Hwan Jong [32] (Park Jong Hwan) have just moved in together. Seol Eun still works tirelessly to present her perfectly femininity persona in front of Hwan Jong, but how long can she keep up the illusion?

Living in the same apartment building as the three cohabitating couples is Lee Joon Jae [21] (Lee Jae Joon), a young man who lives alone but realizes that he must take a roommate to save money. Ever the loner, he decides to take in a foreign roommate to minimize the need for meaningful interaction. But when the adventure-seeking Takuya [21] (Terada Takuya) from Japan moves in, Joon Jae may be forced out into the world against his wishes.

I thought it got a bit slow episodes 8 and 9, but now that I think about it...I probably just wanted more TakuJae, lol. Let's face it, everybody wanted more of them.

Episodes 10 - 12 tore me apart from the inside out. I stood up those last 10 minutes of the finale episode, my body wouldn't let me sit. Oh Do and Doori... I didn't realize how much I loved them two as a couple until I saw Doori pour the coffee and she realized she was the only one there.

Mangoo and YJ actually made me WANT something like that with another person. Also rediscovered the hopeless romantic in myself that I had buried years ago.

I didn't know what the writers were going to do with Takuya and Joonjae, but without making myself revisit those emotions again by discussing it, lol, I am satisfied. Easily one of the funniest and sneakiest dramas I've watched thus far.

I enjoyed this for the first few eps, but gave up after ep 6 or 7. I caught back up this weekend and it felt like they didn't know what they wanted this show to be.

The raunchy slapstick stuff was funny at first, but multiple episodes of just that and no introduction of a plot made it boring really quick. Then 2/3 of the way through they decide to do some real character development and had almost no time to resolve anything. The major differences between screen time for each couple didn't help matters either. I understand giving 609 more time as they're most experienced actors, but did 510 even have 20 min total during the whole show? It's like why even have them there then idk.

I liked how it started as a look into each apartment during a single day, and I wish it would have kept that as the main structure.

At least everyone got a nice ending (especially Takuya & Joon Jae b/c most of ep 12 was tearing me apart). I appreciated the callbacks to the beginning too.

I LOVED this show during the first few episodes. But it got less funny for me later on and I kinda stopped watching the couples that were not joonjae/takuya. And their scenes were kinda frustrating as well in the middle of the show's run.
That last episode though, whew what a trip. The epilogue scenes were perfect.
*winks* gay marriage is legal in Tokyo, right?

Yeah, a lot of people mostly stayed for the takujae. There is even word that there is going to be a dvd releases for the lover with deleted scenes and ngs.

When I heard the guesstimation of the dvd price I went lol bye. And lbr there are only 2.5 takujae scenes missing. I can't believe people thought the shots in the intro were an actual scene

How much is gonna be because I haven't seen the price yet. I remember seeing someone asking about that on tumblr. People seem to not be use to openings in kdrama. I only care about one scene that we didn't get and I'm pretty sure you know which scene I am talking about.

Tho I stayed mostly for takujae toward the end, my favorite scene was when the from apt 609 and 510 got into argument and joon jae had shown up. When it was about to get physical he got in between them we all saw that joon jae was actually a lot more taller then Do ri. I was dying at that scene.

I feel like what happened with the other drama - seonam girls high school investigators I think? Forced the writers to cut Takujae a lot which is a shame. kinda funny how they get together only in the last episode where even if they get a warning it won't matter lol.

I still have to actually catch up on this drama, but from spoilers I've seen, I think I'm satisfied. I agree with how the drama had so much potential in it, but it was a pretty unique concept and refreshing drama, so I'm glad I picked it up lol.

Oh you're right! That might have been why they keep TJ couple's relationship kinda g rated. Shame since both shows aired on cable networks, they ought to be able to do what they like.

Even though I loved Takujae, Oh Do and Doo Ri are the couple that will stay with me. I also loved how things ended for the childish rock star and his noona GF.

i have never cried so much. I really loved this drama, I think I'm the only one that loved Man Goo an Young Joon, but oh well, they rocked! Oh Do and Doo Ri is the couple that really made me stick with this drama as much as I loved TakuJae.

I got into this drama for takujae but I really got to love mandoo and youngjoon and oh do and doo ri. I was so happy that they both were okay in the end
