Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+410, -35] Whether Olivia Hussey is just being nice or not, imagine how happy Minah must feel hearing praise from her ㅎㅎ Looking forward to Girl's Day

2. [+332, -37] To be praised by the original Juliet ㅜㅠ I wonder how that must feel ㅠㅠ I want to feel it for myself but... sigh. So jealous. Show us more of your beautiful image!

3. [+307, -33] I feel like Olivia Hussey would like Minah's cutesy features because her own features are so big and open. You're always attracted to the opposite.

Korean beauty standards are so random I can not to this day figure out how they decide who is pretty who is not

I think the movie became iconic and thus, the actress became iconic. Although she was beautiful in that film.

ia
that actress wasn't particularly popular
i think romeo & juliet was her top work, that was back in the 60's when she was like .... 15 years old
(actress is like 60 now but still very beautiful)

When Olivia Hussey played Juliet she was almost a standard of what is beautiful in Korea. I feel like she is a household name, moreso in Korea than in America. SES Eugene was often compared to her when she first started out. There was a lot of comparison pictures in the 90's when she first debuted.

i actually think Olivia Hussey's features are very alike what sk look for on asians/south koreans, the forehead, the 'flat and log brows, the lips, the big eyes, the jawline.. if u look at it like that, Hussey is like a Caucasian version of what's seen as beautiful in south korea? idk if this makes sense to u but i find this so interesting.

She was pretty popular back then tho, getting to play Juliet and being directed by Franco Zeffirelli was a Big Deal. It's still the benchmark R&J film, especially for purists who don't like the Baz Luhrmann one (which is my fav). I think there was also some controversy back in the day about the film having some nudity, which led to the ridiculousness of Olivia Hussey being banned from her own movie premiere bc she was apparently underage to view her own naked body.

and ia that korean beauty standards can be hard to figure out and they sometimes like the most basic (to us) western celebs, but Olivia H was considered gorgeous even among western movie watchers. LikeI can never bring up the 1968 R &J on ontd or any general movie/gossip site without at least five people fangirling over how gorgeous she is, it's not a case of 'big in Korea only', if that makes sense. (the other old Hollywood star I see the most fangirling over in Korean sites is Audrey Hepburn)

don't get me wrong she was probably seen as gorgeous but she did not have the same impact as Brook Shields in Blue Lagoon. she is not viewed in the same way as Farah Fawcett, Ali Mcgraw, Pam Grier and Carrie Fisher all of these girls marked an era as symbols for desire. I find it just interesting that Koreans has chosen someone so obscure in western popular culture as Olivia hussey. It's good thing though that they have their own idea of what is beautiful

Its ok. Nothing to like go nuts over. Its basically the book. Saw it in high school. You might be put off a bit since there is a bedroom scene with her(she was fifteen at the time) and the man who played Romeo, you see his butt, but nothing from her. Though I don't remember how old the guy was.

Oh, thanks for the review!
Yeah that's a bit awkward to have a fifteen year-old teen doing a bed scene...

Yeah, I remember, he had to get special permission in order to film it. As well, it was rated R because of that scene, so she couldn't even watch it when it came out, it was almost a bit ridiculous, because they let her film a topless scene, but then don't let her watch it herself? As if that's worse..

He was 17... I think. Also, you definitely watched the edited version, because she filmed a topless scene.

Yeah the Whiting/Hussey R & J is the one that's closest to the actual ages of the characters in the play, especially her. They made a gorgeous couple too.

Yeah, they were a really striking couple, they actually dated for a bit.

imo it's the best version but everyone seems to like the leonardo one the most

From: [identity profile] gathyou.livejournal.com
Haha I've only seen the one with Leonardo, to be honest. I liked it because of the colours/style of filming, the music and how they put the story in a completely different society/time but the acting wasn't fantastic

I'll say this, it's probably not the best or most ground breaking Romeo and Juliet ever performed, but imo it is without a doubt the best film adaption and definitely worth watching. I get why everyone likes R+J and aesthetically it is very pleasing, but I feel as though the performances don't really hold up. As well (this is definitely a personal thing) I hate how the director jumped through hoops to get the dialogue to fit the modern era, it didn't work for me.

Lol I've said the same thing one comment earlier, the acting in R+J is definitively not the best part of the movie haha. But the aesthetic is definitively good.
I haven't read the play in English (only translated) so i haven't noticed how the dialogues were changed for R+J. That's really interesting maybe I'll try to compare them now that I'm better at understanding English :)

Lol, yeah I scrolled back up and saw, like immediately after I posted haha.

He didn't actually change the dialogue and for me that was the issue. Having the prince become a cop made Romeos banishment confusing for me. i can't understand why he had them be corporations and not gangs, that would have made more sense. The worst is the zooming in on the guns so that you can see the brand name is "longsword". It's all minor stuff, but it just kind of made me laugh.

I wonder if she's aware of how popular she is in Korea.
