Mamamoo Shares Thoughts at Pink Funky Showcase
Mamamoo shared their thoughts at their first showcase since debut.
Mamamoo’s showcase took place on June 18th in Seoul Metropolitan City at Ilchi Art Hall.
When asked how she felt about their first showcase, Mamamoo’s Solar replied, “It’s our first time holding a showcase in front of reporters. I’m very nervous and excited. We will work hard performing the rest of our stages.”
Hwa Sa stated, “It’s our first experience holding a showcase in front of many reporters. Our shoulders feel heavy, but we worked very hard to prepare this album. We will keep showing good performances until many people’s eyes and ears are happy.”
When showered with immense amounts of [camera] flashes, Whee In stated, “It’s so (*flash*) bright. We’re very nervous, but starting with the next performance we will show you an even cooler side of us.”
Whee In comments on their album. “We spent our days busily when preparing this album. We recorded a lot and also personally choreographed with help from a choreographer. Because of this, we were very busy.”
Solar, “We’ve come back with our 2nd mini-album, ‘Pink Funky’. In the past we did 60~70’s inspired concepts, but this time we’ve prepared a 90’s concept. The lyrics are fresh and fun. The special point is that there is a twist in the lyrics.”
Mamamoo were asked about the meaning of their new song, “Um Oh Ah Yeh”. Hwa Sa stated, “They are exclamations you make when you fall for a guy at first sight. People don’t quite understand the title of the song when they first hear it, but they are exclamations.”
Solar after completing their performance of ‘Um Oh Ah Yeh’, “Today is our 1 year anniversary since debut, and we are performing in front of reporters. The feeling is different from when we perform for the general public. I think it is more nerve-wracking.”
Mamamoo speaks on their song titles so far all containing 4 characters. “It’s not that we feel we must always use 4 characters, it just coincidentally turned out that way.” To this Whee In stated, “I hope that ‘Um Oh Ah Yeh’ will earn as much popularity as our previous songs and receive a good response.”
For the music video this time, Mamamoo challenged dressing like men. Whee In, “When preparing for this album we tried out men’s special effects makeup. It’s something you won’t normally get to experience in life. It wasn’t easy, but we had fun doing it. The music video is unique and came out fun. We’re satisfied with it.”
Moonbyul, “Becoming a man was exciting. In order to appear like a man, I wore a compression bandage. However, when dancing it kept falling down so I removed it. That was a bit difficult, but the rest was really nice.”
Whee In, “Hwa Sa’s character was a tough, good-for-nothing kind of guy. I had the role of a nerdy, calm, shy type of guy so I was a bit intimidated.” Moonbyul stated, “I played a handsome and witty guy. I was trapped in the thought of having the image of a gentleman who wore a jacket.”
When asked how many points they would give themselves for their works over the last year, Solar said, “We did many works over the last year, but in my personal opinion I would give us 50 points. We’ve worked hard up until now, but in the future, whether it’s songs or performances, I want to fill up the remaining time. 50 points out of 100.”
Mamamoo were asked about the stylistic change in their new song. Whee In, “We wanted to show a trendy and new side of us. We have greed to experiment with several genres. This time we prepared to show a newer image. We heard girl group sunbaenims and several rookies will be coming out so we are working hard to survive among them. Still, we think of it as an honor to be rookies standing on the same stage as our magnificent and cool sunbaenims.”

MAMAMOO Shares Thoughts on Joining Upcoming War of Girl Groups
Ahead of the release of their second mini-album “Pink Funky,” MAMAMOO shared their thoughts on the upcoming war of girl groups as SISTAR, Girls’ Generation, AOA, Girl’s Day, and 9MUSES are expected to make a comeback between this month and the next.
On June 18, MAMAMOO held a showcase at the Ilji Art Hall in Gangnam where they performed numbers from their impending album.
Wheein remarked, “I heard that a lot of girl groups are making a comeback. We are going to try hard in order to survive. We are still a new group, so it’s an honor to be on the same stage with our sunbaes (seniors).”
“We’ve never had one group that we thought of as our rival,” member Hwasa added. “Everyone is our rival. Our agency is counting on us. The other groups are all very distinguished, so it seems like we will have to showcase our unique color.”
The title track for “Pinky Funky,” “Um Oh Ah Yeah,” was written by songwriter Kim Do Hoon, while MAMAMOO members contributed to the lyrics. Chris Gehringer, who has worked with artists like Rihanna and Lady Gaga, participated in mastering the track.
4Minute’s HyunA and MAMAMOO’s Hwasa Show Off Their Unexpected Friendship
4Minute member HyunA recently revealed her unexpectedly close friendship with vocal group MAMAMOO member Hwasa.
On June 17, HyunA posted a photo on her personal Instagram account with the MAMAMOO member, along with a caption that reads, “Hwasa.”
In the uploaded photo, Hwasa can be seen planting a kiss on HyunA’s cheek as they both wrap their arms around each other, showing off their adorable affection for one another.
In some of the other photos that HyunA shared on this day—from what appears to be a gathering of friends—fellow 4Minute member Sohyun, as well as Block B’s Zico are also seen posing with HyunA.
