On a recent episode of “Kim Shin Young’s Song Requests at Noon,” KARA member Seungyeon made a special appearance but ended up being criticized for her comments.

It seems as though netizens are now more unhappy, as they criticized member Seungyeon for her comments on a recent broadcast of the MBC FM4U radio show, “Kim Shin Young’s Song Requests at Noon.” During the show, host Kim Shin Young asked Seungyeon, “Do you guys [KARA] have deep discussions about the stage performances of other girl groups?” To this, the KARA member answered, “We worry about whether or not they are worried about the shortness of their pants. We are unnies to most of them…sometimes we worry that they are too short [to perform in].”

Netizens attacked this comment and bashed Seungyeon, reasoning that her statement was rather hypocritical, seeing as how her own group, KARA, also wears pants that are very short for their album concepts and live stage performances. In fact, KARA’s latest concept and music video for “CUPID” features the members of KARA wearing pants that are just as short as the ones that other currently-active girl groups in the industry can be seen wearing.

1. [+1,034, -50] Your shorts are pretty short too...

2. [+895, -55] Worry about your own pants

3. [+733, -48] KARA's are super short too...

4. [+688, -106] She's just looking out for her juniors but of course the journalist goes and puts up a picture of her in short shorts ㅋㅋㅋ Baiting everyone to hating her

5. [+159, -45] She should worry about her own group

6. [+119, -40] She shouldn't have the time to be worrying about other groups right now... what Melon rank is your song at right now?

7. [+104, -28] She talks like her group doesn't expose skin. Their outfits are just as exposing with crop tops and short shorts, what's she going on about?

8. [+55, -8] Can you really worry about other girl group bottoms considering what you're wearing?...

Cause how dare she worry about her juniors

Netizens are stupid because clearly they are older so it would be more "appropriate" instead of 16 or 17 year old girls and sexualizing them.

See GFRIEND as an example.

I don't think there is really anything wrong with being concerned about her juniors.

omg. even if her comment had anything to do with complaints it's not like they get to choose what they wear. they could just as easily be saying they're unhappy. anyway seungyeon is so sweet and it says more about the netz than anything else that they twisted a comment that seemed to clearly be about concern about sexualizing children and how they feel about it into catty woman viewing all others of her gender in a competitive light. classy

I really dislike seeing safety shorts being longer than the outfit itself.

+1

Perhaps I'm just a practical person but I always end up thinking "What's the use of wearing shorts if the safety ones underneath cover more than the actual piece of clothing...???"

way to be obtuse and miss the point

Seungyeon's most likely speaking from personal experience. Wearing and having to perform in short shorts must be really uncomfortable given the relatively conservative culture, plus the male-gazey aspect.

Those shorts are no shorter than the ones I see girls around Seoul wearing. I don't know how these girls feel comfortable sitting in public spaces with their asscheeks hanging out...

To me there's a clear difference tho -- girls you see around on the streets wanted to wear those outfits -- idols don't get a say in what their clothes are, esp rookies. And it's one thing to wear short shorts/skirt when you're out an about and another when you're elevated, in front of hundreds of people who're recording you dancing

oh yeah i'm not arguing with that. I was making a statement about the "shorts" i see being worn around here.

I took this as her/Kara understanding the uncomfortable feeling of having to perform in outfits that are ridiculously short and wishing girl groups esp ones with underage members (or even ones that aren't fond of too much exposure) being able to perform mroe freely.

Because 90% of the time, the length of stage costumes are not take into consideration when crafting choreo

I always wonder how those girls perform in such tiny outfits and heels. I also wonder how comfortable they are with some of the sexual choreo. Like when EXID actually bends over and shakes their butts, do they ever feel uncomfortable? I'm all for female empowerment, but this is not empowerment. These girls are being told what to do, and their choreography and costumes are picked by their management, who are males. No matter how much "say" groups have in their concepts, etc. it's really their management that decides these things.

mte

On one hand I really think some girls enjoy performing sexy songs (Hani always seems really into the performances for example) but one the other hand you never really know whether they're comfortable with the choreography/their outfits, especially when the artists are young.

lmao @ all the netizens just blatantly ignoring what she meant

I agree though, sometimes I'll be watching performances of girl groups and hoping those girls are legal :/ not just the clothes, but the suggestive lyrics and dances can be very problematic as well

but i'm confused tho since i saw the title, isn't all of the girl group has been using the same-length-short-and-skirt? including kara ofc
