Ryu Hwayoung blew me out of the waters- she has an over the top character but it doesn't come off as try hard or ridiculous.

And she seems to have a bigger registry of emotions than most leading actor-actors who we see on air. I swear to God if I see one other perpetually neutral lead I'm gonna go insane.

mte. For the trailers I thought I will dislike RaRa (over the top characters annoys me) but she makes it work. It doesn't end up being ridiculous and she's even my favourite character.

Tho Hwayoung in the few live perfs I saw of hers was also a pretty good rapper esp by idol standards. Anyway I hope she finds more and better work now.

tho placing him above lee joon... i mean sungjae has some great scenes in school 2015 but grapevine in general is a better drama and lee joon's part seem more demanding for him as an actor.

Grapevine performances were p much an emotional tightrope for all the major players but especially Joon and Go Ah Sung. If he'd flubbed even one scene in there, it would have been nails on a chalkboard and he'd have looked terrible buthe pulled it off.

While School 2015 is a mess plot-wise and Sungjae's character simply stands out. Not only because he's the good second male lead, just Taekwang gets proper developement and even tries to come in therms with his emotional traumas, while other chacters... erm... Watching Grapevine was fulfilling while watching School makes me feel like I waste time even though I fast forward through many scenes :p
It doesn't make sense to call Joon an idol anymore too.

tbh I'll give some credit to Sungjae too, he lives up to the material he's given. The writers have given Yi-an a plenty sympathetic background and even tried to flesh him out a little but Nam Joo-hyuk is just about adequate in his role and sometimes not quite that. Which would not be a problem if Sungjae wasn't his costar and outshining him on the acting front.


and yeah, Joon and Hwayoung for that matter are not idols any more (Hwayoung's been 3 years out of the idol life, welp).

Hwayoung is really endearing as Rara and manages to make her feel grounded. Speaking of Ex-GF Club, I've actually been disappointed with Lee Yoonji's portrayal - hers comes across as a caricature, completely superficial with little to no inner life. I mean, the writing is partially to blame as well, but I just really cannot stand how Yoonji plays her character. :/

her character is pretty atrocious tho. i don't think any actress could do a better job tbh (tho maybe another actress wouldn't portray her in such an exaggerated way??). i blame the writing, she has nothing to work with. i don't understand her character whatsoever, she's so manipulative.

rara is written to be much more endearing/sympathetic, hwayoung has it alot easier imo.

It's ok... no real plot. I've seen better Hong sister dramas (my gf is a Gumiho and Master's Sun) and worse (Big).
I find the male lead an idiot at times. It isn't addictive as other dramas I've seen this year (kill me heal me, healer, angry mom, school 2015). But that's justxmy opinion.

W&C is kind of devoid of plot and tbe first 2 eps are really weak just like most Hong sisters dramas.

but the funny really starts kicking in around ep 5, and it's a nice chill kind of watch after that, def good for days when you just want a fun drama and nothing else grabs you. YYS/KSR are both solid in their acting and just really cute together, and I'm loving Kim Sung Oh. It's good to watch with dramabeans recaps since they explain a bunch of the puns and ambiguities the Hongs always stick in.

lol, call me blind but while watching Ex-Girlfriend Club I did not notice for several episodes that Fox was The Ryu Hwayoung, and I really like her character. Fox is one of my faves in the show. I was a bit in shock when I found out lol. (okay, I'm stupid too...)
