BTOB Sungjae to Join WGM; Netizen's Weep

With the announcement of the Henry-Yewon and Song Jae Rim-Kim So Eun couples soon to be leaving MBC‘s We Got Married, the first cast member to replace them has been announced.

On June 3rd, it was confirmed that BTOB‘s Yook Sungjae will be joining the cast as one of its new couples for its fourth season.

The official said, “Yook Sungjae will join ‘We Got Married’ as a new couple starting this month. The first recording is ongoing today.”

Unfortunately, the official has not confirmed who his partner is and his female partner is currently unknown.

Sungjae has been very active this year in the entertainment industry with his singing skills as an idol singer getting recognized after his stint on King of Masked Singer. In addition, he is currently playing a very charming character in the KBS 2TV‘s Who Are You – School 2015 as Kong Tae Kwang.

Known for his bright and cheerful personality, Sungjae will undoubtedly brighten up the popular couple show, which has been on air since 2008.

i'm so proud of him for getting so much recognition and working so hard but dunno anything about wgm and obv it doesn't have a stellar rep. i didn't know and i dunno why that is, i've just always personally found it to be a strange and creepy concept. didn't this show used to be super popular?

its still fairly relevant. its bad rep is debatable. its just a silly variety show, the only people who really /hate/ it are people who take it too seriously on both sides of the pacific lol. also not every couple has the same dynamic. i have mixed feelings about the show myself, but when it has a good couple on its alot of fun. i'll be sad when jaerim/so eun couple goes cuz they rly brought the lulz haha.

Why all the hate for WGM?? I mean personally I think the show is weird...but I thought it was (or I guess used to be) somewhat popular, at least back in the days of Adam couple, Khuntoria, etc.

The show is weird. Everyone hates~ it and it gets mediocroe/low ratings but year after year it's still one of the best variety shows for launching careers. Especially for Actors, MBC seems to have a 2 for 1 deal where any actor who joins WGM will get a bunch of MBC drama roles.

I dont understand it either probably because I treat it like I'm watching dramas but with real characters. It doesn't matter whether its fake or real since its like watching love stories except the people play themselves. So I dont exactly understand the hate.

I didnt watch the show but I watched it when my fave people in it -- it makes me see more of their personalities so it doesnt hurt tbh. Like Lee Soyeon is super evil in all her dramas characters but she actually super sweet in real life. So, its actually awesome to see that side of her since God knows I want to slap her everytime she appear on screen when I watch her drama lol

20 and married... It will always creep me out how in WGM when the couples go out and meet people they said they're husband and wife, with foreigners who don't know what is going on they did it too. And when the couples are young is even weirder.

anyways i'm gonna repeat what i've put into op's note: i suspected it already but seriously cube. why... he's still live shooting school 2015 and btob hasn't finished recordings for new album? not to mention he's hardly sane, even though he conceals it on non-btob variety shows, and i wonder how it will go... it depends on his partner tbh and i wonder if he will do it with another idol or they will take some rookie actress?

i just hope he will sign prenuptial agreement :p

? "more often than not a career ender" Hmm, I don't think so. Unless one is involved in scandal while doing WGM, and even then that's not true. Oh Yeon Seo had her time on WGM with Lee Joon cut short cuz of her dating scandal, yet she's gone on to star in lots of hit shows just like Lee Joon actually.

Yewon's career failure or success is really about her behavior on the other show, not this one.

Now, So Eun definitely had scandal cuz of show, but she already has role in upcoming drama, sooo.... Mostly lesser known stars go on WGM, so some have careers take off, like Jo Kwon, Jae Rim or the show has little to no impact.

Sungjae is kind of crazy...so his image from acting and masked singer is going to shatter some more (ah Radio Star)

The only benefit of this show is they probably promised him some MBC roles and that he could bring his group on multiple times for publicity. He's very humble about his voice so he'll have vocal line perform once and he'll get spoiled as one of the Maknae line

They'll probably go to a music show during their promo to visit him so the group's music gets notice and he'll serenade her too

If he can tone it down and play the sweet dork role he could come out pretty well from this. I heard it might be Hani or Choa in the Noona Wife role which...IDK . The netizens are already protective of him going on the show though so the writers will keep that in mind

WGM is like some magical devil thing because even tho the ratings r mediocre it really puts a lot of rising stars on the map in various ways. including photoshoots and cf deals.

so this doesnt even remotely surprise me.

if sungjae can leave the show unscathed (it IS possible) this is a pretty solid career move.
