Lee Joon Was Cast in ′I Heard It Through the Grapevine′ Within 5 Minutes of Meeting the PD
Lee Joon thought back to then when he first met Ahn Pan Seok PD of I Heard It Through the Grapevine.
On May 28, Lee Joon participated in an interview with Newsen in Samcheong-dong, where he talked about SBS′ I Heard It Through the Grapevine and his acting.
Regarding the praise he′s been receiving for his acting, Lee Joon said, "After starting the drama, I browse articles a lot. I′m glad that there are more people who are looking at it with favorable eyes than expected. Just like every project, I′m always nervous. Even if I′m satisfied with my performance, people can view it differently, so I always stay on my toes and act."
About how he was cast in I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Lee Joon answered, "I′m really honored. I was really nervous because I really enjoyed watching Ahn Pan Seok PD′s previous project. I still get nervous now and I get nervous with every scene. I think that′s why I tense up a lot. I try not to fall asleep on set."
"We had a meeting for about two hours, but after talking for five minutes, he said, ′I like you. Let′s do it. Tell your company that you′re going to do this drama.′ And that′s how it was decided."
When asked what he did to capture Ahn Pan Seok PD, Lee Joon said, "I′m not so sure myself. When I went to the meeting, I didn′t even dress up. I′m not confident in my bare face, but I took a shower and shook the water out from my hair and went. I like things that are natural and I think I went with a comfortable heart. Maybe that was it."
"I usually can′t stare into a person′s eyes, but if I have the thought, ′I have to make this mine,′ I try to meet eyes no matter how nervous it gets."
"Whenever I go to an audition, I get dropped, but when I go have a meeting, I′m always cast. It was like that with director Kim Ki Deok′s project. All of my projects so far have been possible through meetings."
About I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Lee Joon shared, "Truthfully, it′s a very difficult project for me. That′s why I keep reading the script. Even when I rest or eat, I always take my script with me. There′s a deeper meaning in each line, and I worry that I′ll miss something or won′t be able to pull it off well, so I keep practicing."
"There are lines that have deep meanings, like ′special compliment′ from Secret Love Affair. I′m afraid that I won′t understand it and I′ll easily spit it out. Ahn Pan Seok PD told me, ′You′re an actor, so do it comfortably as you would."
On the most memorable scene, Lee Joon chose the taxi kiss scene with Ko ah Sung.
"It′s the scene where I ask for permission to kiss from the taxi driver. ′Driver, I′m sorry, but is it okay if we kiss?′ The line is both realistic yet unrealistic. It′s a situation where you′re with the person you really love in a terrifying state of mind, and I guess you can say it′s Han In Sang, who has good manners, showing off as a young man," explained Lee Joon.
"I think there′s a bit of emotion where he wants to appear strong mixed in there. That′s why that scene and line remain in my memory the most. When I watched it on broadcast, it came out a lot better than I thought it would, and my faith in Ahn Pan Seok PD grew."
With I Heard It Through the Grapevine dealing with the two sides of power, Lee Joon, who plays the son of a family with power, said he′s always been on the other side. "I think I′ve always been on the weaker side. Even in my school years, even when I was a senior, even when I was a junior," said Lee Joon laughing.
Having debuted in 2009 with MBLAQ, Lee Joon gained acting experience through Iris 2, Gapdong, Rough Play and more. After leaving MBLAQ, he was cast in SBS′ I Heard It Through the Grapevine, where he is receiving praise for portrayal of Han In Sang.
Lee Joon Hopes MBLAQ Will Do Well with Comeback
Lee Joon has expressed his support for MBLAQ′s comeback.
On May 28, Lee Joon participated in an interview with Newsen in Samcheong-dong, where he said, "I hope MBLAQ does well."
Earlier in the day, MBLAQ shared news that it will return as three members following Lee Joon and Cheondung′s departure. Receiving a question regarding the news, Lee Joon answered, "I saw that article today. I hope things go well for them. I don′t know the song, but I believe they will do more than well."
Regarding his plans as an artist, Lee Joon shared, "It′s not that I won′t do it, but that I probably can′t do it for the time being. Right now, I′m not satisfied with my acting yet. I want to go deeper into acting. If opportunity allows, I′ll think [about singing] over again, but right now, I don′t have any plans."

Lee Joon Says ZE:A′s Im Si Wan, Kwang Hee and CN Blue′s Jung Yong Hwa Cheer Each Other On Often
Lee Joon showed his support for his BFF ZE:A′s Kwang Hee.
On May 28, Lee Joon participated in a interview with Newsen in Samcheong-dong, talking about how he cheered on Kwanghee becoming the sixth member of MBC′s Infinity Challenge.
On this day, Lee Joon shared that he received a lot of support and had many conversations about acting in I Heard It Through the Grapevine with his close friends Im Si Wan, CN Blue′s Jung Yong Hwa and Kwang Hee.
"I′ve written in the comments section of my friends′ articles. When Kwang Hee was going into the Sixth Man project for Infinity Challenge, I posted a word of encouragement," shared Lee Joon. "It was kind of fun leaving a comment."
"Kwang Hee really worried a lot when he appeared on Infinity Challenge. He called me one day and said, ′I really want to do Infinity Challenge, but do you think I′ll do well?′ I didn′t know if he would get selected, but because he was worrying so much, I told him, ′I think you′ll get picked. If you do, you′ll be winning over Si Wan. You′ll do well.′ Then he really got picked. I was really proud as a friend."
"I think Kwang Hee is doing better than I thought he would. When he goes on other variety programs, he tends to be a bit timid, but I believe he′s putting his life on the line for Infinity Challenge. You can tell just by his expressions. He′s working hard thinking he′ll die if it′s not Infinity Challenge. I want to support him."
"Kwang Hee, Si Wan and Yong Hwa really support each other a lot. When something happens, we call each other up. When Kwang Hee got picked for Infinity Challenge, we really congratulated him."
