It's adorable but I feel like it looks way too young to be sold.I hate the popularity of 'teacup' breeds in Korea especially since so many of those dogs are raised in such horrible ways. And 'teacup breeds' are bs and a way for puppy mills to profit off sick dogs. (Most teacups are runts and bred with other runts so that the puppies will be even smaller and as a result a lot are very sick dogs and have a whole host of health problems)
I feel bad for ranting because I'm sure Woohyun loves it dearly and it's more unethical practices on behalf of pet stores but I wish people would stop supporting this industry. My uncle is a licensed breeder and he always has owners of teacup puppies coming to him for help. What these mills do is take already small breeds (like Yorkies) and take the runt (the weakest/smqallest of the litter) and breed it with another runt of the same breed.Obviously the puppies they have is sicker, smaller, weaker version and they sell them early (at around 3-4 weeks instead of the reccomended 8-10) so that they miss out on valuable social interaction time with the mother and litter. As a result a lot of these dogs have agression issues and die early. It's just a way for mills to profit off very sick puppies. No official kennel clubin the world recognizes 'teacups' as a legit breed
no yeah a lot of people prob don't know about this stuff i sure didn't so it's good to talk about it
i did think when i saw it surely it's too young to be away from its family already but i wasn't sure of the effects if there were any. my family got our first dog a while back and it wasn't something i was involved in, i'm a cat person/owner and am knowledgeable about issues surrounding them instead and just since getting our dog i've been hearing a bit about some of these issues, it's so sad and i wish people were more generally aware
a lot of people don't know about these issues tbh, I admit I didn't know pet stores were bad or what puppy mills even were before reading ontd and people commented on celebrity pet posts said it. Where I live there aren't really 'pet stores' but I used to think that stuff was normal in the West?
like even now I have friends who are confused when they hear the term 'puppy mill' bc they have no idea what those are/that they're bad. I hope Woohyun at least did some research and can make sure this puppy is well taken care of.
mte. i think i say this every time there's a new 'idol got a puppy!' post. sometimes being a crazy dog person sucks cause then you can only see the bad things.
i had to stop looking in pet store windows in korea cause they made me so sad. most of the time the puppies could barely even stand steadily, let alone walk, they were so young and weak :( and they were being sold for like 700,000+w. plus when they're taken away from their mothers too early they dont get good immunizations or learn proper social skills.
at least this one doesnt look as near death as tao's puppy did. dear god, i legit thought that one would die within 2 weeks.
Oh god I felt sick the first time I watched the videos of Candy.Even now I worry for that dog, it's highly unlikely it's not going to have some kind of health problems down the line. I don't understand the need for these 'designer' breeds when there's so many shelter dogs that are healthier and plenty that would meet family requirements (like smaller breeds for apartments). If we speak about it exclusively in business terms, you're paying more for an inferior product that will cost you more down the line.
wow I had no idea teacup breeds weren't legit/had so many problems. And from what I saw of Tokyo, I can see how tiny dogs would be popular in a place like Seoul, with the tiny apartments and all - you don't want to cramp your dog into a space that's too small for it.
The only celeb pets I paid attention to before were Yoseob's chihuahua and Junhyung's bulldog, but those two looked like a healthy size for their breed and age. It sucks that even dogs have to be 'designer' these days, what bs.
My first thought on seeing these videos was that the pup looked awfully young :( I hope it's ok. And I never knew that stuff about the breeding of the 'teacup' dogs, that's so sad!!
