Actor Song Joong Ki was recently discharged from the army, and he had the chance to talk about his experiences in the military at the press conference held at his discharge ceremony.

“I’m overwhelmed at seeing so many cameras like this after such a long time,” he says to reporters. “Thank you so much for coming all this way.” He then salutes to the huge crowd of ecstatic fans who came to see him.

“What has changed about you during your time in the army?” asks the interviewer.

“The biggest change for me was transforming from a twenty-something into a thirty-something,” he says with a laugh. “Also… I’ve just unconsciously got my hands folded behind my back, that’s definitely a change.”


“I think I’ve become a bit more fit,” he adds seriously. But then he laughs again as he jokes, “The reason being that I was in the army with relatively younger guys, and I hated to lose to them in terms of physical strength.”

Song Joong Ki, who was just recently discharged from the military, is already back in the thick of things, with his first script reading for the upcoming KBS drama “The Descendant of the Sun,” also starring Song Hye Kyo.

According to a source who was at the reading, “Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo showed great chemistry, and it was a lot of fun. The actors suit their roles extremely well.”

Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo play special forces soldier Yoo Shi Jin and doctor Kang Mo Yeon, respectively.

The reading was sought out by more press than usual, evidencing the sheer level of interest for this drama, being Song Joong Ki’s comeback drama, in which he is accompanied by A-list actress Song Hye Kyo.

Moreover, the drama is penned by “The Heirs” writer Kim Eun Sook and directed by Lee Eung Bok, who was at the megaphone for “Secret.”

Y'know this is something I noticed with a lot of older men in Korea. I just figured it was an "old guy thing", but now I wonder if it's a habit from their military days?
