[Q] Recently you stood on the stage not as one member of the 6 but as one, how do you feel?
It will be very interesting if I get the feeling that I can manage this space (the stage) well. Actually I feel a bit regretful about the first broadcast. After monitoring myself I feel disappointed at the fact that I only managed to do so much. It's not about nercousness, but it's because it's before the digital song is released, and it's my first time standing alone on the stage. But starting from the second time it gets better

[Q] You're considered the member with a few words among BEAST, how do you feel accepting an interview like this?
I find it fun, faintly. Because in group interviews, for some parts we have to match with each other's throughts to a certain extent before saying it out. But because this time I prepare it myself and released a product, so it became that I only have to say my own opinions.

[Q] Including your trainee years, it’ll be the first time in 10 years you’re releasing an album with your own name. When is it that you begin thinking about this?
It’s about 3 years ago when the CEO asked me ‘Wanna give solo a try?’ Yes, though I said I want to do it, but because of the CEO let me to prepare it myself, I don’t know where to start so I put it on hold and many time has passed. During last year summer when I was in a musical (Bonnie & Clyde), he contacted me once again. The official preparation time should be around June. Thinking about it now if I started that solo activity 3 years ago I would have a lot of regrets. If at that points of time I did it there will be many inadequate places.


[Q] What changed during that period of time?
I understood that it’s not just obediently training in the practice room that will make you do well on the stage. In a song of Block-B sub-unit BASTARZ, there’s a line that I emphasize with very much - 'Playing on a stage without manner is the answer’. We have to appropriately let go ourselves and play to let the song and the stage seems more natural. Understood how is it like meeting people and chatting, listening to good songs, developing some unseen feelings (compared to like physical improvements that you can see) this kind of thing is very important too.

[Q] Before you understood all those things how are you like?
I’m a training maniac. When I’m a trainee I feel like that it’s a ‘Of course’ / ‘Indeed’ thing to be singing and dancing everyday. After I debut during non-promotional period, I also insisted to train one to two hours. For the other members even after we ended our group activity, they would still go on variety shows so they are very busy and very tired too. I don’t have much personal schedule, even though I did feel a sense of crisis, I treated that time as an opportunity to practice.

[Q] Different from group activity, how do you feel about producing album that completely focused on yourself?
I understand how difficult it is preparing for a solo album, but I enjoy the process too. Even though I didn’t write any songs myself, but I met and chatted with the producer-hyungs everyday and we had a lot of discussion regarding the songs. Because it’s very important album to me, I didn’t have the thought of taking any songs just for the sake of hitting a certain number of tracks in the album, but I thought of each track’s name one by one and asked them to help me to produce it. No matter what I didn’t want to take on the same road (style of song) that BEAST and Troublemaker took.

[Q] Idols who are composing songs and writing lyrics are increasing, developing a desire towards composing seems to be a fixed rule as well. What’s the reason for not participating in composing in your first solo?
Actually, the things we write ourselves will look not bad if we look at it ourselves. But looking at it after composing it for a few days later, it doesn’t seems like much. A really good track is a track that you find good even when you looked at it after some time, but a not so good track will look not so good too after some time (laughs). I tried writing lyrics before, but I know those are unable to satisfy the completeness of the album that I want this time, therefore I did not attempt to do so.

[Q] Title song ‘Ma First’ performance left a deep impression on people. There are parts where it’s different from a powerful style. What kind of feeling are you looking for?
I don’t want a dance that is filled with skilful techniques from the beginning to the end. It’ll be better if I can present it with skill and ease on a whole. Even if it’s difficult even if I’ve had to remove some actions, I still want to invest the appropriate feelings into it. For example there’s a scene in ‘Ma First’ that require a point that need you to act handsome, so we included the action of sweeping back my hair. Comparatively, the dance break part was performed with very intense/fierce actions. (I) want to use this sort of singing and dancing method to show something that previous solo male artistes don’t have, so I was troubled for a very long time, even until a day before the MV shooting I’m still constantly changing the choreography.

[Q] Heard that you gave a lot of opinions regarding the outfits too.
I wanted a more casual style, the makeup is slightly lighter too. This time round there isn’t a need to specially modify details. Compared to leather shirt leather top that sort - a simple t-shirt, jeans, sports shoes, and wearing one or two accessories; this sort of simple style is the main point.

[Q] Previously don’t you like unique and glamorous fashion?
In the past I like buying clothes a lot and I bought a lot too. I feel that compared to quantity, quality is more important. Buying 1 expensive clothes is better than buying 5 cheap clothes, but slowly I did not have any control and it became buying 5 expensive clothes. Bought a lot of though pretty but uncomfortable when you wear it type of clothes, those type of clothes that I can wear it again and I have to go buy it again and this situation keeps repeating itself. Just like this one day I was looking at my savings and feel that I’ve to cut down on my spendings. So recently I don’t have much yearning for clothes anymore.
