Comedienne Cho Hae-ryun has a plan: by March 2013 she wants to be a fixture on the Oprah Winfrey show, eliciting gales of laughter from the audience each time she comes on. Cho is studying English with a personal tutor as if her life depended on it to expand her sphere of activity to the United States. It is her second such campaign, the first being to learn Japanese to conquer the island country four years ago.
"If you set a concrete plan, you figure out what you need to do to achieve it, so you don't waste time and you get closer to your goal," Cho says. "I call this process writing a future diary. You write down your plans in every detail as if they were happening right now. I started the new journal early this year, and the result has been even better than I expected. I get a lot of positive energy that keeps me on track."
Four years ago, Cho set out for Japan armed with only minimal knowledge of the language. She felt the need for a new challenge, and she alighted on Japan. Establishing a career there was not easy. Every moment felt like standing on the edge of a cliff. But it was the future diary that sustained her through difficult times. Writing it helped her accept her situation and complain less, and she advises others around her do the same.
"As I kept writing my fun plans in detail, they became so vivid and alive, and I felt a surge of endorphins," she says. "I firmly believe that everything I record in my journal will come true. It will for sure. I'm designing my own future."
The key, she says, is positive thinking. "Life can become so happy by just little things like writing a future diary, which transforms negative thoughts into positive ones."

Date: 2009-09-29 01:38 am (UTC)I also think she's like an older sister to many of the idol groups too, having bumped into them numerous times on TV. She's really funny with them (SuJu, DBSK and the "older" generation of groups - like Hwang Bo, HOT and Shinwha). Anyway, I adore her.
