Known for his donations over the period of many years, Shinhwa′s Kim Dong Wan revealed why he wants his donations to be known to the public.
On May 13, Kim Dong Wan and other members of MBC′s I Live Alone appeared as guests on MBC′s Radio Star.
The MCs brought up the topic of donations, listing off some of the donations Kim Dong Wan has made in the past many years to families in need, comfort women, earthquake victims, and more.
The MCs then pointed out that Kim Dong Wan asked the writers not to mention his donations on the show, but makes sure his donations are put on blast to the public.
Kim Dong Wan answered, "I didn′t want to mention it on broadcast because the atmosphere will get too sincere, but the reason I want my donations to be known is because many people are worried that the money won′t be used properly if they donate. I′m the same. I make it known in order for it to be used correctly."
"There are also some cases where people, who have never given help to others, don′t use the donations to the full potential. That′s why I like relief organizations and I like making my donations known, because the money could be used in the wrong place." explained Kim Dong Wan.
"I started donating after being influenced by another person donating. I think it′s good for donating to become contagious. I′m a bit embarrassed that it got blown up on Love Request, but I was happy."
The MCs then added up the amount of the donations mentioned on the show, coming out to a total of 225,000,000 won.

Date: 2015-05-16 11:26 am (UTC)I think that's a good reason too. It's different than the more common reason of encouraging others to donate to the same causes. You'd want to know that your donations are being utilised to it's fullest/ not be part of some scam.
