BIGBANG reveals G-Dragon’s slump period and Seungri’s increasing maturity

BIGBANG talks about Seungri‘s increasing maturity, and G-Dragon personally speaks about his slump period before their album release.

Agreeing with Taeyang, who has mentioned that Seungri has never had a slump period since debut, Seungri explained, “I never thought that it was hard, and I never thought about any other path other than BIGBANG. Truthfully, I reflected a lot on myself and worked hard to survive while being surrounded by such talented hyungs. I thought that the best thing was to match the other four members well so I worked to balance the group out.”

Continuing, G-Dragon said, “In the past, Seungri would often get in trouble with his hyungs for various reasons, but at one point, he matured without us having to tell him anything. I think there was a personal moment that made him change. Before, Seungri didn’t have any image within YG Entertainment, but now he is very popular. Seungri and I don’t reflect as much as the other three, as we try not to dwell on the bad things.” Comparing himself and Seungri to the other members, G-Dragon stated, “Taeyang, T.O.P, and Daesung have deep moments, with Daesung being the deepest amongst everyone. Both Taeyang and T.O.P are deep, but are also sensitive. In contrast, Seungri and I just think whatever happens to be good is good.”

Referring to his own personal slump, G-Dragon began with, “If I were to talk about my slump when it came to music, there were times when, even with a lot of effort, it wouldn’t turn out well. In the past, even after coming back from a long, tiring day, I would write at least two songs at the dorm before I slept as if it were my duty. Last year, however, things just weren’t working out for me so the album kept getting delayed. I’m also not the type who writes songs just for the sake of it. Because of that, the CEO was worried last year; I used to do things so easily, but now the album just kept getting delayed.

What I’ve realized through this promotion was that BIGBANG has to continue with all five members. I messaged the members saying, ‘We really need to release an album,’ and sent one to the CEO saying, ‘If the company creates the space for all the members to work together, I think we will be able to do it.’ From the end of last year to the beginning of this year, we all worked together in the studio. I took out all the songs that I had made in the past three years. This single is filled with songs that we’ve worked on these past two to three months.

People who work in the music field all say that they have a ‘muse.’ For me, I think my members are my muse. If I think about who I work for, it has always been the members. This is how I got out of my slump.”

YES to Seungri. UNFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.... His maturity is very apparent. Have to say, they all seem to be more grown up and more certain of who they are as people. TOP has especially come out of his shell, no longer holds up the fake rough TOP identity that he was given at the beginning. Very happy for him.

I'm not happy with what they have released, but I am happy that they are able to be more comfortable in their own skin. I'm not one to pressure an artist for a release. Except for Jade De La Fleur. I need another EP... Just happiness in their personal life. And good music. And being less embarrassing. I'm terrible...

I can't wait to hear the rest of the songs. I'm happy that they are proving people wrong. I still laugh at all the comments in omona about how they weren't close or hated each other LMAO especially when they come from topdaeri fans hoping that they hated gdyb's guts.

After all these years I still don't quite agree with the notion that GD just HAS to be the main writer/composer for BigBang. He's in control of their sound, the others don't care or feel comfortable enough etc. etc., these reasons are all fine but I'd love for the other members to have more imput?? And, while I get that the members have things outside of BB, this would also shorten the hiatus periods.

I think YB being co-composer for Loser is a good step in the direction of the others having more musical input.

this is a good point and I think I agree. we don't want them to turn into GD and the Pips after all. one reason I like BB so much is that they all have such strong characters and I would hope that all of their personalities are reflected in their group music, not just GD's

They have a 'group sound' ofcourse, but for that to always be GD's? And I still feel like there has been a pretty big overlap sound wise in GD's solo stuff (one of a kind/coup d'etat), Alive and now M. Bae Bae is cute but it feels like a solo leftover of his??

it isn't this article and tbh i'm not sure which one of the comeback interviews it was but i saw gd saying that this time around seungri also had a lot of input in the album, so although gd is usually the main writer/composer for bb, i think the others are starting to put more of their input into it

OT but apart from hot blonde Seungr,i my favorite part of this comeback is TOP's outward involvement. I hate how he floods instagram sometimes (it's just tooo much) but it's a huge relief to see him actively promoting BB and connecting to his fans. I really thought he was hopelessly indifferent and removed in anything BB for a while there.

'deep' could imply they have a rich inner life, i.e. self-involved, cool with being solo all the time, or maybe they're even aloof to some extent. 'sensitive' could add the fact that they're actually affected by what people say and think, that sort of stuff.
they're not necessarily contrasting terms though, so the 'but' is a little odd - maybe complementary terms/traits.

of course, that's just how i'd interpret the word choice in a literary piece. because this is a translation, i don't actually know if gd really meant 'deep' or there's another specific word he used.
