BIGBANG Members Discuss Dating in Comeback Interview
On May 4, BIGBANG held an interview for their recent comeback, where they answered various questions regarding their dating lives.
Taeyang says, “We’re the same as any other people our age. It’s not a bad thing to date, and you need a lot of experience.”
He continues, “I wholeheartedly agree that, as a person whose job it is to express feelings through music, it’s important to have experience. But Korea seems to be pretty sensitive when it comes to that. So we are a bit careful with it.”
T.O.P jumps in, and says, “I don’t think about whether dating will have an affect or not. But I do think there should be some distance maintained. I’ve seen too many adverse effects from people making too many things public.”
When asked whether they share with each other their dating lives, they said that it depends on the person. Some of them do, and some of them don’t.
Daesung responds to a question about whether he’s a “loser” or a “winner” when he dates. “I think it depends on who you’re dating. Whether you’re dating a femme fatale or not. In the end, you just need to meet sticky rice cake (referring to “BAE BAE” lyrics).”
BIGBANG’s “Loser” Reaches 10 Million Views in Less Than Four Days
Within just 88 hours of its release, the music video for BIGBANG‘s “Loser” has reached 10 million views on YouTube.
According to YG Entertainment, the impressive milestone was reached on May 4 at around 4 p.m. local time.
The music video for “BAE BAE” is quickly catching up with the pace of “Loser” with over eight million views so far.
Meanwhile, “Loser” and “BAE BAE” keep dominating the music charts for the fourth day straight, topping all major charts in Korea and ranking high on iTunes around the world. Despite being released at the end of the week on Friday, “Loser” also shot straight to the top of weekly charts on six major music sites, proving the popularity of BIGBANG’s latest two singles.
BIGBANG Addresses Speculation that “Bae Bae” Is about Kiko Mizuhara
In a recent interview with Star News, BIGBANG addresses speculation that their new single “Bae Bae” is about G-Dragon’s rumored girlfriend Kiko Mizuhara.
The specific lyric under question roughly translates to “Forever you’re 25 to me you don’t change BABE 5 x 5 BABE.” When asked whether the lyric refers to a specific person, T.O.P replies, “It’s not like that. We discussed this amongst ourselves and the theme contains the selfish desire for a woman not to age. We thought of how we could express that in an interesting way. We thought about what age people usually consider a woman to be the most beautiful so 25? 26? After contemplating, we decided on 25. There is no big meaning to it.”
To a further question about whether the lyric has nothing to do with Kiko Mizuhara, who was born in 1990 and is 25 years old in Korea, G-Dragon says, “Kiko is 25? (Laughs) The subject of “Bae Bae” was being 25 years old. It was the theme that first came up when we started on the song. While talking in the studio, we thought, although this might offend women, that 25 is the most beautiful age.”
He continues, “As mainstream artists, we thought rather than just limiting it to 25, we should somehow make it about love. We say 25, and this can mean years or 25 days, but we felt we needed to interpret 25 a little more under the theme of love in order for [the song] to be relatable. We put [25] in the song as an age, but that is just an interesting part [of the song].
T.O.P adds, “Rappers think that lyrics that haven’t come out yet are interesting. There are a lot of things we put in that are just fun without any special philosophical meaning.”
BIGBANG said they are only close with other members of the group.
On May 4 at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, we interviewed BIGBANG to ask questions about their new project album “MADE”.
When asked about how other singers have reacted to releasing songs on the first day of each month, BIGBANG gave an unexpected answer. G-DRAGON said, “We’re not close with other singers. We too busy to care about what others think.”
G-DRAGON added, “The songs have just been released. I hope that our fans will love the album as we much as hope.” He also said, “We don’t really get hung up on results. If our album becomes a huge hit then that would certainly feel good. But even if our album doesn’t do so well, we like the album so we don’t have any regrets.”
He went on to say, “About us releasing a song every month, other singers and labels can use this as an opportunity to create high-quality contents. Then, people will have more good songs to listen to and become more interested in K-pop. This is my ultimate goal.
About the secret of maintaining the team spirit, G-DRAGON said, “We’re not BIGBANG if one of us leaves or gets switched. In any case, five of us became one team. We’ve become good friends and that what kept us together.”
He added, “I don’t think we should keep BIGBANG going by doing drastic things like changing members or kicking someone out. We create a great synergy effect when five of us are together. We are not close with any other artists but only with our members. We’re good friends and that’s what kept us going.”
T.O.P commented, “We’ve never had a fight so far. We’re all very different and interested in different areas, so there’s no seed of conflict.”
BIGBANG released the first album of their new project album “MADE” on May 1. They will reveal a new song on the first day of each month until August. As project “M”, “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” have been released and are gaining favorable responses.
