Yuna Kim of the new rookie group, The Ark, has received the spotlight as a Superstar K contestant and YG trainee. She gathered much attention for her brief appearance in 2011 on Superstar K3. Appearing in front of the judges without appearing nervous, she stole the hearts of the judges as well as the public.

Although she was unable to pass ′Super Week,′ YG Entertainment saw her potential and gave her a chance as a trainee. Despite rumors of her debut, she left the agency, surprising the fans. The worries on the path to become a singer continued, but in the end, after going around in circles, Yuna Kim returned to the stage.

Although she didn′t debut at the time, her story had more ups and downs than a singer. It could have been burdensome with the public′s curiosity, but Yuna Kim remained bright. "I′m Kkap Yuna, in charge of the energy on this team" is her introduction and this is ′Yuna Kim′s Debut′ according to Yuna Kim.

Yuna Kim recently stated in an interview with Newsen, "I only have a grateful heart that there′s a lot more interest than I thought there would be with The Ark′s songs or stages, especially in a time when there are so many rookies that it′s hard to receive interest."

"While I was preparing for my debut, I worked hard to hide all the gaps. I wanted to debut with everything smoothed out for vocal, dance, talent and even the members′ personalities."

The thing that brought Yuna Kim to debut was the audition experience from Superstar K. It was the program that turned, ′Should I try it?′ to ′I have to do it.′

"Before Superstar K, I only studied. My parents were really strict, so I was raised in a strict environment. It′s very different from my image, right? Haha. I lived in New York, which is the symbol of freedom, but I was a student who only studied and never really met friends. Dancing and singing were just my hobbies. But Superstar K became the reason why I began sincerely thinking about becoming a singer."

"Many Korean parents have the mindset that says, ′In order to live well, you have to be a doctor or a lawyer.′ My family was a bit like that. They emphasized studying and studying was also fun for me. But before I went to high school, I started stressing out and felt a burden towards studying. Even when I went out to Superstar K, it was for fun. Because of that, I wasn′t nervous during the audition, and I think many people approved of that."

Yuna′s journey to become a singer received opposition from her parents. "They were severely against it. They were against me even doing the second round of auditions. So to get my parents to relax for the time being, I enrolled in prep school over vacation and studied hard, which is why I couldn′t prepare well for the Super Match. I got eliminated right away. Haha. Now that I look back, I think it worked out well. Results wise, I was able to see for myself how much I was lacking."

She′s now a debut colleague with Shin Ji Soo, who was on Superstar K at the same time. Lim Kim′s activities are greatly influencing her as well. And now, her parents are her biggest supporters.

"Now, my parents love that I′m promoting," said Yuna Kim with a bright smile.

Regarding Superstar K and audition programs, Yuna Kim shared, "Broadcast is a platform where even one statement is important. Through the public′s response on how I′m seen on broadcast, you can tell what kind of person I am, and I′m learning how to respond in those situations."

Yuna Kim was also asked about her life as trainee in YG Entertainment. Does Yuna Kim regret leaving YG Entertainment, as it′s an agency that many hopeful singers reach out to?

"No. I don′t regret it. [The time being a trainee] was actually a time of great help for me. The biggest difference with me now is my determination. When I was in YG, I didn′t know how to do anything and I felt that I lacked in everything. It was a time that showed me that," explained Yuna Kim. "I worried, ′Is this the right path?′ and I lacked confidence in myself. So I was going to return to the U.S and study, but the agency I′m at now persuaded me a lot. And I met the members now and learned to understand each other, allowing me to stand where I am now."

She struggled with endless worries about her future path, even choosing to leave a major entertainment company. There must have been times of frustration, but it was those times that created the Yuna Kim now. She′s become more mature and received the determination to see herself objectively. That′s why the future of Yuna Kim as she takes her first steps foward is being anticipated.

Yuna Kim is currently promoting the song The Light with her group, The Ark. With a powerful performance for its gentle song, The Ark gained much attention, even being called ′The Birth of a Great Rookie.′

I was honestly so surprised to hear the improvement in her rapping/singing during the lives like I almost couldn't believe how good she sounded. I'm glad she left YG, else we wouldn't be blessed with The Ark!!!

She seems really happy now and work along the other girls greatly, I wish her and The Ark the best things in future.
It would be nice for them to promote once or twice more in this year, garner even more attention and snatch the rookie awards bc for now there aren't any other strong candidates, hope that SM not gonna push out new boygroup this year cause in that case my dream will stay dream;(

Ofcourse was it a great idea to leave YG. They don't do jack shit for their artists and here Yuna is with a debut AND significant progress talent wise under her belt!

We'll see if she made the right decision in the long run, but for now leaving for another agency allowed her to debut earlier than the YGGG so I'm happy for her.

good for her, but she ruins the song with her annoying rap. She needs to improve.
