ok so here is the thing...
i REALLLLY want to get into research.

i did mechanical engineering for my bachelors and am currently working as a lighting designer/researcher.
the work is ok, but i really wanna get into R&D. i think it would be the right stream for me. even a PHD maybe.

but i dont know what i would like to specialise in....

Not really, I can't think of anything right now :/. But I think the best you can do if you want to get into research is doing a master and/or a PD and specialize on your favorite field. There are lots of interesting fields in R&D (engineering of any kind, biochemistry, physics, etc...) and internships for that.
