It's back - March K-indie post!
2015-03-31 01:01 pmFlash Flood Darlings - Byeol
If you like low-key, mid-tempo electronica, this is for you. Flash Flood Darlings is apparently a 17-year-old from Christchurch, New Zealand, and he is banging out some seriously great layered tracks. You can listen to more of his songs on his record label's Youtube and buy the album this comes from, Vorab and Tesoro, on iTunes or listen to it on Spotify.
Moss - Flash Life
Flash Life is a vocally sparse addition to the jazzy hip hop style we've been hearing a lot in K-hip hop lately, this time from producer duo Ken Moss and Cookie Monster. They've got a Facebook page and a Youtube channel with more songs, and you can buy this single and others on iTunes.
Yun Ddan-Ddan - Nextdoor Love
A lot of indie bands these days are making stop-motion or other simple animated videos since they're relatively inexpensive to make for artists that usually don't have a lot of cash to pony up for fancy sets, plus there's a lot of creative freedom for groups and animators to draw whatever their imaginations conjure up. Yun Ddan-Ddan used this technique to great effect in his video with duet guest Eunjong, which used photographs and cutout paper drawings to show the cute adventures of a couple from meeting to goodnight. You can listen to more of his songs on his Facebook and Youtube pages.
Vagueblossom - Distance
The standout of this single from Vagueblossom's first EP is the harmonies, accompanied by acoustic guitar and just a few dashes of plinky piano for accent. There's not much info on his Facebook page, but he also has a tistory page where you can listen to some his other songs.
Midnight Monsters feat. Myung Mi and Take'M - Beautiful Stranger (Johnny Kim mix)
I couldn't really find any info about Myung Mi or Take'M, but I'm assuming they're the female vocalist and rapper on this track respectively. The song is all in English, and despite a few odd lyrics ("You make me smile like a drug in my eyes"????) it's a fun tune to listen to. Myung Mi's autotuned vocals remind me of GLaDOS from Portal, and the video uses a really cool and creative bokeh effect to show the lyrics on screen without doing it in a boring way.
Monoban - Blue Mountain Breakup
I love the waltzy melody of this song and how it alternates between just acoustic guitar and layers of instruments to keep the sound dynamic. If you like this song, the band has a Soundcloud page and they're on Spotify if you'd like to listen to more of their music.
