From a recent interview:

..."Recently, I went to the USA for half a month. I must admit that I have been riding the plane as much as I have been waving my hands, but this US trip is a personal trip. The starting point of the trip was in LA, where a close dongsaeng (younger brother) has been studying. Then, we drove a car and raced off to Las Vegas, ending the trip with a visit to New York. I didn’t do anything in particular because there was no intention of a special work."

He just wanted to have some normal (private) time and expressed that this was a “Food Tour”, where he noted and sought the famous restaurants. He went to a favorite homemade hamburger restaurant and even tasted unknown dishes out of curiosity. Away from the camera and the stage, he was in his natural appearance, without a care, a complete stranger and traveler.

About the time he was to return to his home country, photos of him taken at the New York subway become a hot topic in the internet, “Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance in New York” became an issue. Wearing a light padded jacket and a snapback (baseball cap), he had an ordinary appearance.
