“Roommate” to undergo another revamp and lineup change for third season

SBS variety show Roommate – Season 2 will be going under another transformation and revamp for its upcoming third season with its current season is nearing its end.

On March 15th, a broadcast insider told Daily Sports that the second season of Roommate will be ending and they will move on to air a third season. They continue to reveal that “the new season mostly be actor-oriented and who have not been on variety shows.”

Another staffer revealed to the Korean news portal, “The second season is ending. The existing framework of the show will be kept, but the way the episodes are unraveled will be different. A lot of the current cast are leaving and new people will join the program to lead it in a new path.”

Since its inception, Roommate has always suffered from low ratings even with a change of time slot for the second season, which never reached more than 4%, and seemed to rely on several guest appearances to keep the audience’s interest.

The first season of Roommate aired in May 2014 following the end of K-Pop Star 3 and featured a cast of Shin Sung Woo, Lee Sora, Hong Soo Hyun, Lee Dong Wook, Park Min Woo, Seo Kang Joon, Jo Se Ho, Song Ga Yeon, 2NE1’s Park Bom, After School‘s Nana, and EXO‘s Chanyeol.

Following the leave of Shin Sung Woo, Lee So Ra, Hong Soo Hyun, Park Bom, Chanyeol, and Song Ga Yeon, the second season aired in September 2014 with the addition of Bae Jong Ok, Lee Guk Joo, Ryohei Otani, KARA‘s Heo Youngji, g.o.d‘s Joon Park, GOT7‘s Jackson, and Girls’ Generation‘s Sunny.

My guess of who's leaving: Park Min Woo, Seo Kang Joon, Nana, and Sunny. They seem to be so busy lately.

I think Joon Hyung and Ryohei will stay because their learning Korean segment was pretty interesting.
Jackson and Youngji will probably also stay.

I don't know about Bae Jong Ok, Guk Joo, and Jo Se Ho (I do feel they'll keep one of the comedians on to help)

Why do I have the feeling that either Youngji or Jackson will leave though

because both of them clearly don't like the whole JackJi shipping since Jackson has to reiterate everywhere he goes that there are no lovelines/he isn't dating anyone/he can't date because he promised JYP

She did. She also got a new hairstyle recently, so people are speculating Kara is getting ready for a comeback. I personally hope she doesn't leave.

The show can change their cast for 10 seasons straight but it will still go down the same route if the show doesn't have a clear focus with the content. Had they chose to focus on the members just hanging out among themselves like they did in the earlier episodes, it would be a whole different show. It started out so good, then the guests come trickling in... sigh.

the got out of control with the guest appearances. they r so good when it's just them it REALLY isnt necessary to have guests all the time.

i LOVE this current line-up, i think it's definitely an improvement over season 1. i am curious to see what season 2 will be like.

and as much as decorating the rooms was cute for season 2 i kinda wish they'd go back the designed rooms of season 1.

i hate how their rooms look now lol? like the girls at least have the same bed frames but they took out the bedframes for kangjoon/jackson's room and minwoo/dongwook/seho's room upstairs and it looks so cheap lol. maybe it was to save space but it looks so tacky tbh

the minimal parts we get of them just hanging out now remain to be the best. i don't get how the pds don't see that and still shove guest stars that take up 95% of the screentime now. then what is the point of having such a big cast? might as well remove everyone but seho and have him interview the guest stars one on one

And I have pretty much said the same thing you said on every outlet that I can. It's ridiculous because even K-viewers commented the same but it's like the PDs are not in touch with what the viewers want or someone else in a much higher position is running the show smh.

i feel you :[ it's like they don't want to us to like the show at all. i was lurking on soompi lol and they said something similar to what you said about higher ups maybe having a hand with all the guest stars but idc who's in charge of the decision it's just a bad choice. literally all other variety shows carry the guest star format would it be so bad to have ONE show that didn't focus on it?! sorry, i have a lot of roommate feels lmao

i don't think they will air ever that because they filmed it for the lunar year holiday and then for whatever reason didn't choose to air it. so dumb. they also filmed a scene where kangjoon and jackson went to visit gayeon but they never aired that either...i wonder how many rolls of film they have backed up that they never plan on airing :[

There's still a Bom/Chanyeol episode they never aired. Even though, I guess I understand the reasoning for why, why even show the previews. There are also arcs of Season 1 that never got completed. Really annoying, which is another reason I couldn't consistently continue with the show.

sbs and the rm pds have been consistently stupid about this show. the problem was never the cast, it has always been the lousy editing and more recently the need to push guest stars for promotion that has killed the show. i was an avid watcher of first season, tolerated the 2nd season but i highly doubt i'll watch the 3rd one with the cast not sticking around :[


this could've been the korean reality version of friends man. all i wanted to see was people sitting around and doing nothing, lol

minwoo has already pretty much bounced it seems... or is just getting cut hard core in the editing room. the only members i really care for are dongwook, kang joon... seho, joon, and jackson are too much for me. the rest are pretty chill so i don't mind them. i am curious to see who is staying since it seems most are leaving.

i just feel bad for dong wook after the new years episode because really nothing is working out well for him.

i hope they cast one of the non popular 5urprise guys for season 3 and stop with the guests and just let them live in a house and let us watch them.

This show seem to have benefited some of the not-so well known members of the cast in Season 1.
Not sure just how much, but for some like Seo joon seem to have gotten a good spotlight

I haven't watch much of season 2, just 3 episodes. I like the concept of seeing celebrities just chilling out and socializing with people not within their circle
