Someone on tumblr brought this Swedish documentary on Kpop from 2012 to my attention. From 4:30 (part 2) onwards, it gives a look into how Swedish songwriters create songs for SM Entertainment (a tiny portion of Red Velvet's ICC can be heard!).

SwedenKPOP 1 2 3

I find this kinda stuff very interesting and I love my Swedish pop writers.

Most of my favorite sm songs have been when they worked with either danish or swedish producers! One that I know personally makes bank from his work with sm so everyone can get it tbh

it feels weird to hear about kpop in Swedish. My friend has produced a couple of SM songs. He quit though because western labels pay more

thanks for posting this op! it felt a lot more 'documentary' than the 'plastic surgery shock factor' that a lot of these are, i liked the showing videos + dates/names thing
also swedish revision + kpop hobby + music industry analysis? this is my nerdy heaven

Yes! I'd love to be taken through the redoing + lyric changing +deciding who to give which track and how albums get put together/title tracks chosen.

The songwriting camp part was really interesting. I've always wondered why SM specifically sought out Scandinavian songwriters.

lmao @ the SM VP refusing to talk about plastic surgery

Sweden is where the best pop music is. ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base, Cardigans, Avicii, Loreen...
They basically shaped every major american pop act from since the 90s too, with Max Martin behind Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys and later RedOne and Martin Kierszenbaum with Lady Gaga... Most major pop hits have a swedish producer behind it.
It's amazing to have scandinavian producers doing songs for asian artists!
I, myself, hope one day Alexander Bard starts doing K-Pop/J-Pop, he's my favorite producer ever (Jolin Tsai did a cover of one of his songs once).

I'm sorry for the long comment, I just love scandinavian music (BTW, where are the Swedish members? WHY did you send Måns Zelmerlöw to Eurovision??)

He's said some pretty nasty shit and I don't agree with that, but he does know how to do music.

Oh I didn't know that..... I remember I watched a documentary where swedish songwriters wrote for jpop..... but actually the jpop and kpop sounds are very very different..... so are they given guidelines or something?? I wonder why it's specifically these swedish/scandinavian songwriters then.....
