MBC's Flower of the Queen Starts off with High Ratings

MBC’s new weekend drama “Flower of the Queen” starring Kim Sung Ryung and Lee Sung Kyung is off to a great start.

According to ratings research company Nielsen Korea, the first episode of the drama recorded nation-wide average viewership of 17.1 percent. The ratings were above average in the capital area, where viewership reached 18.7 percent.

The drama was particularly appealing to women in their sixties; 19 percent of viewers in that age group tuned in to the show.

“Flower of the Queen” took over the time slot of “The Legendary Witch,” which started off with a 14.5 percent viewership last October. Many are wondering if “Flower of the Queen” will be able to break the ratings record of “The Legendary Witch” by surpassing 24.7 percent.

Meanwhile, SBS’ “My Heart Twinkle Twinkle” came in last in the time slot with a 3.8 percent rating.

Also According to MBC, the March 15 broadcast of the drama scored a 20.8% in ratings in the greater capital area and 16.8% in national ratings. Although this is 0.3% down from the first episode broadcast on March 14, the drama still had the highest ratings in its time slot.

On the other hand, KBS‘ “Jangbirok” had a 10.7% in ratings, while SBS‘ “My Heart Twinkle Twinkle” continued to see extremely low ratings of 3.4%.

“Flower of the Queen” airs every Saturday and Sunday evening on MBC. It stars Kim Sung Ryung, Lee Jong Hyuk, and Lee Sung Kyung.

I did. Seems like it'll be makjang as hell since there's birth secrets and accidental deaths right in ep 1, and not as breezy and feel-good as What's With This Family if we're comparing weekend dramas, but it looks very much like your usual MBC weekend drama. Older cast seems solid esp. Kim Sung Ryung. Lee Sung Kyung's ok so far but Yoon Park looks only slightly less half-asleep than he did in WWTF lol.

sis if you're going to try long drama imma call it early and say DO NOT START WITH THIS ONE. When I say typical MBC weekend drama that's not exactly high praise!

Try High Kick or What's With This Family or sth if you want a long drama, they're at least fun. The good thing about long dramas is you get multiple storylines, it's not just about an OTP or w/e and people get actual character development. What's With This Family especially, there were characters I wanted to shove down a toilet in early eps but ended up loving, and it was pretty makjang-free for a weekend drama, no real 'bad guy', people have fights and forgive each other instead of holding grudges for centuries etc. And a good cast, especially senior actors.

ikwym I love her too but I prefer to just wait for someone to put cuts of her scenes on youtube or sth. And I say this as a fan of both Kim Sung Ryung and Lee Jong Hyuk.

WWTF isn't perfect but it's the best long drama I've seen since Ojakkyo Bros., it goes by pretty easily too. Totally worth the last six months of following along.
