Instiz: Rumors circulating that Red Velvet is a rotation group

In the Red Velvet music video, 7 female trainees make an appearance. The one in the red below is the new member Yeri. The rest are under SM Rookies.

Just a few months ago, new member Yeri was up on stage at an SM concert with the other trainees (minus Rami).




And despite Red Velvet's official debut, the four members are still listed as being under Rookies, adding to the possibility of Red Velvet simply being a rotation group.





Instiz: Red Velvet as a group is in an awkward position now

SM debuted their new rookie group with the intention of catching up to A Pink but that was difficult to begin with because of A Pink's core fandom and the difference in debuts.

It then seemed like Red Velvet could become rivals with Lovelyz but Red Velvet randomly went with a 'dark concept' with 'Be Natural'. Lovelyz is now in a rivalry with Girlfriend, which they'll surely benefit off of.

As for Red Velvet... in order to survive, they'll either have to go with an f(x) concept or somehow garner way more popularity than Lovelyz and Girlfriend so as to not fall behind but they're in an awkward situation now...

They'll basically have to be competing with the new Cube Girls or Kwangsoo's Girls (YG and JYP have postponed their girl group debuts so Red Velvet has some breathing room for now).

2. [+225, -9] As a fan since their debut, I don't welcome this news at all. They should've debuted the group as five members to begin with, they wouldn't nearly be getting as much as they are now;;; Why start with four and add a new member in between? And Joy was the maknae but now her position's up in the air with Yeri joining... She's so young too, why couldn't they wait until she was a year or two older? I really liked the four member concept, it was unique and it worked.. The girls holding hands in pairs was adorable... Now that they're 5 members, what differentiates them from f(x)? I heard there are rumors of them adding members up to becoming a 7 member group ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ What if that actually happens ㅠㅠ

3. [+126, -7] I'm not a fan but I don't like this either... What're they going to do about their debut song during concerts? And Joy was the maknae but now suddenly Yeri is...

i think how the original four interact with yeri (in off camera moments) will really affect how the fans think of her. like if the 4 make active efforts to have individual moments with her, fans will be more welcoming. but if it always looks like 4+1, fans will never warm up to her.

i always feel bad for people who get hate for something they have no control over :(

They won't last if they're going to be a true rotational group. It would be so dumb of SME. I think it's just that RV haven't exploded the way they hoped and Yeri is an attempt to fix that now rather than later, because adding new members is the easiest way to make a group seem exciting and get people to pay attention.

Interesting. Not sure if it's a good idea for SM to finally have a rotation group, although I'm aware they've been toying with that idea since Super Junior debuted.

IA with the first statement of that comment, but the second statement I disagree with. There have been SM groups that failed in the past, like my fave, CSJH The Grace. Four talented, attractive and flawless girls, but sadly didn't gain much popularity.

I will be pressed about CSJH forever and ever. I think if SM hadn't sent them to Japan so soon they could've really took off. Like right when they decided to abandon CSJH in Japan girl groups became relevant again with SNSD and WG. I will never not be bitter about it tbqh

I think if SME would have stated they were a rotating group from the beginning it might have worked out well.
If your as a big of a company as SM, the group will be successful. With all this drama over girl groups (from Sulli to Jessica, to Wonders Girls staying in limbo) it would be smart to be able to shuffle girls however you like, and it wouldn't seem shady because that was the plan from the beginning. They can continue promoting and making money without altering the brand much.
and there's no shortage of young people trying to find a spot.

It is unusual, but I'm curious about how the rotation will end up working.
It's not like they are a well established group with a bunch of songs and huge fandom, it's still early enough to keep introducing changes.

Only gripe I have is the fetuses they will introduce.
