“Unpretty Rapstar” Members Talk about Yoon Mirae and How She Became an Obstacle for Female Rappers

Rappers of Mnet‘s TV show “Unpretty Rapstar” had a discussion about rapper Yoon Mirae during a joint interview on March 10.

When asked why no women rappers have ever stepped up to second Yoon Mirae, Cheetah grabbed the microphone to answer. She started, “Personally, I have a lot of respect for sunbae Yoon Mirae. But I think the reason female rappers haven’t been noticed is because people keep looking for ‘The Next Yoon Mirae,’ or ‘The Next Something.’ We all want to become ‘The First’ of something, but people create a standard that fits Yoon Mirae and want us to meet that standard. I wish people will stop creating standards and just listen to us with open minds.”

Yook Ji Dam added, “I’m sure all female rappers here grew up listening to sunbae Yoon Mirae’s songs. This is why if we’re ever called, ‘The Next Yoon Mirae,’ it wouldn’t make us feel bad, but I think it’s something we have to overcome.”

Meanwhile, “Unpretty Rapstar” members brought up the name “Yoon Mirae” several times during the show, including when Jessi complimented Yook Ji Dam by saying that she could become “The Next Yoon Mirae.” AOA‘s Jimin had also revealed during an interview that she practiced with Yoon Mirae’s songs during her trainee days.

“Unpretty Rapstar’s” Jolly V Sees Diss Battles as Pure Sport, Tymee Disagrees

Jolly V and Tymee participated in a joint interview held on March 10 for Mnet’s female rapper competition show “Unpretty Rapstar.”

The two rappers, who recently laid it all out in a heated one-on-one diss battle on “Unpretty Rapstar,” shared their differing perspectives on diss battles.

Jolly V said, “In the case of Eminem, he’ll call out a certain person in a diss, but it’s really not a diss because it’s for the sake of satire. In that respect, you can see his sense of humor.”

She continued, “Just look at it as a sport. We are rappers, and rap is our weapon. Like in sports, we just show off our abilities in the arena.”

Tymee disagreed, “I [consider] diss [battles] a bit differently. I think it’s a little too light to compare them to sports because for you to diss someone at all means that you don’t like or can’t stand the person.”

She added, “I think Jolly V and I fought precisely because our views on diss battles are different. We’ve both dissed and been dissed, and I feel like going forward. It’s best to just [produce] good music. I feel like when you say malicious words, you degrade yourself.”

What are your views on diss battles? Pure sport or personal?

More on this OTP: 'Unpretty Rap Star' Tymee "Got into a huge fight with Jolly V... I still don't have her number"

An update on their relationship.

Tymee "Before the filming, I didn't even want to see Jolly V. We got into a huge fight after the filming and I got a text from her but we're not like what we used to be. Sure we'll text but I don't have her number yet."

Jolly V "We're at the point where we'll give New Year's greetings now."

1. [+16,333, -1,185] Can't deny the truthac that Jolly V is using Tymee

2. [+13,015, -846] Jolly V did cross a line

3. [+12,652, -722] If I were Tymee, I'd never be able to forgive Jolly V for using a memory I never wanted to remember again as a diss against me

4. [+11,357, -638] I understand why they fought, I'd be mad too

5. [+1,441 -144] It makes me sick how Jolly V tries to act all cool... she's so hard to like. There's nothing hip hop about using someone else's painful past as a diss against them.

6. [+1,254, -122] Jolly V would not even still be around if she didn't diss Tymee;;

7. [+1,147, -103] I hate people who act like they're so cool after hurting someone

8. [+1,119, -152] Tymee's a saint for putting up with her, ugh ㅡㅡ..

allkpop translated that bit in an article and it's, like, dang yo --

" I'm not eye-catchingly pretty so I'm not an idol, no I can't be an idol nor a sexy model, but I'm a rapper. So like a rapper I rap, but the only things you can do are curse and pretend like you're all that. You'll probably shake your chest while you talk. Shake it. And you have to ask, Oppa, can I do it?" referring to Tymee's sexual song called "Oppa, can I do it?"

"Your stuff that was neither cool nor had substance, your dirty personality, Tymee your timing is up. I'm not envious about your albums or your album sales, if you were better than me than you'd be on the show as a producer [not a contestant]. I still remember Show Me the Money 3, you wrote your lyrics and did your stage, all fail," referring to the time Tymee forgot her lyrics on the show. "

lmao i can't stand Tymee she's such an hypocrite.

The reason why netizens are more inclined to like Tymee is because she's already popular (somewhat) and its convenionally pretty, whereas Jolly V has doesn't have the typical basic pretty look.

uh someone's never heard, like, any serious diss tracks?

Rumor is that Tymee tried to commit suicide after the original diss track (on top of other shit, like her shitty label at the time and her career at E.via), so I think that's what they're referring to...

LOL netizens. There are no lines that get crossed in rap. Nothing is taboo. That's one of the great things about rap.
