This ep is about lies : what kind of lies can you tell/not tell, what are the most common lies you can find in xx country, there is a hidden camera etc. It was very interesting. What do you think about Kumari?
this is the first episode i've watched and i really like it!
i think sam was right about the Kumari, ppl you are educated can def see the problem compared to ppl who just blindly follow the relgion/culture that is passed down. i think it's child abuse, it's isolating a young child, denying them choice and freedom and later causes back/leg problems and they have a hard time communicating with others/stunted mental & physical growth.
i also just googled it some more and ew, the requirements are so gross, this is a 2-4 yr old child and you're worried about the shape of her thighs/neck/eye lashes.

There's short webtoon called For the sake of Sita that deals a bit about Kumaris. It's really good you might want to try it! (Although obviously it's fiction so I'm sure it must not be entirely accurate).
What Sam said was such a good point, I've never realised that (about education). But yeah, I couldn't believe so many of them were okay with the Kumari. Culture or not, this is a young child and you're subjecting them to something horrible like that for years or their lives without even giving them a choice.. if it were adults that choose this themselves I would be a lot more open to it. This is child abuse.
But this ep was very interesting! I have a feeling that the show is getting a bit more serious. Maybe that's just me.
this was my first episode and ia with everything you said. if someone in their 20s/30s wanted to do this then it's their choice as a consenting adult but doing that to a child who is unable to give consent is wrong.
About Kugari, who are we to judge what is good or bad? But the problem is that this girl will go back to normal life when she gets her menstruation. Maybe some things could be adapted. Like they can let her walk or exercise for her to be able to walk later. And about her psychological or social problem, I guess she's not alone. There's someone to feed her and dress her up. Perhaps they can prepare the transition. I don't know really but since they are talking about it, I guess they want to keep the tradition but adapt it. When you think of traditions it seems that it's the same since forever. However when you study history you realise a lot of things are different compared to their origin.
The debate about lies was interesting. It's a cultural gap which can lead to a lot of misunderstandings. I'm the kind who will wait for a phone call like Ilya. The other person is just polite but it's better to not say anything. It gives expectations and it can hurt.
