Boyfriend In Wonderland Listening Post! (+ An Interesting Little TVDaily Article On The Album)

They are literally a thousand faces. Just like a sweet boy friend, the group BOYFRIEND who sang ‘BOYFRIEND’ cutely, has suddenly transformed into manly men with ‘OBSESSION’ followed by ‘WITCH’ and now with their motif as ‘Alice in Wonderland’, they’re back with ‘BOUNCE’.

“With this album being the end of our fairytale trilogy concept, we took advantage of each member’s characteristics and we each played a character from the story besides Alice. Compared to the feelings of our previous songs, the title track ‘BOUNCE’ is very different. This is actually our first time to attempt having the chorus repeat in a song. The choreography too, though it is an extension to our previous choreographies that is individualistic, during each of our respective parts, the person singing is able to shine and we can express the difference between each of our colours.” (Donghyun)

In this album, there are a total of 6 songs including ‘BOUNCE’, ‘All In’, ‘Crooked’, ‘1 2 3’ ‘Lost Memory’. From EDM to ballad, their genre is also diverse. With ‘Lost Memory being a song written together by Donghyun and Jeongmin, making it their secondly produced song, the song was made together by the two when Donghyun asked Jeongmin to watch his personal favourite movie ‘Eternal Sunshine’.

Minwoo said “When our title track was not decided yet, I’ve listened to ‘Lost Memory’ and I really liked it. ‘I think it’ll be cool if we could also do a promotion with this type of song.’ When we do our next set of promotions, I would like it if we promote with this as our title song. I liked it that much and I think that it fits our group really well. So I told them, let’s use this song as the title song for next time and take the song out of this album,” not holding back on praising the self-produced song.

Jeongmin stated “Since I have no desire to write us a title song, even with just a song included in the album, I need to go step by step in an orderly way. An opportunity will come to me one day too so, I said I’m going to do it next time. Starting on our next album, I think Donghyun hyung can even produce it. We’ve already written a huge a mount of songs in our computer, so much that we can even release how many full albums with it. It’s a desire, I have a desire in producing, if only the company will allow us to do so,” shyly revealing his strong ambition.

Though he has said it that way, even at the company, it feels like they have acknowledged BOYFRIEND. Donghyun said “We received a lot of feedback from the staffs at the company but they tell us coldly. And so, even if we say that it’s okay if you don’t tell us the tiny details, they would show it to us with a reference video perfectly. Usually, we go to a recording studio outside of the company and pay for monthly rent for us to produce a song. But with one of our produced songs was included in our last album, they have given us our very own recording studio inside the company on the 5th floor. They give us a lot of support and they acknowledge us but I hope that they will listen and believe in the songs we make in the future too.
BOYFRIEND who revealed their desire towards music excitingly, on the question concerning their fist solo concert which was held back in November of last year in Seoul, they’ve recalled the time when they were deeply moved by the fans.

Donghyun confessed his thankful heart, “We’ve done a big scale concert overseas but since it was our first one in Korea, it was a new feeling. I have never cried on stage before but, during that time, I got extremely emotional to the point that I couldn’t sing one whole song. I cried so much because of the fans’ ‘Thank you’ slogan event. We had a year and 6 months unofficial hiatus but, I was so thankful that they have waited. When I meet the fans, I get energy that can be obtained from anywhere else.”

BOYFRIEND also have an upcoming consecutive tour in South America, Europe, Southeast Asia etc. The members said “We’re also going to a country we’re unfamiliar with- Bolivia. We heard that it has a high altitude and I think that it’s going to feel like a mission to us. I’m looking forward as to what will happen. In South America side, we heard that people like masculine men.  We’re curious about that, and we’re also curious about why that part of the world is loved even though it’s far away. We’ve been to Puerto Rico before and the fans sang along with us in Korean. The surprising thing is that, the’ve studied Korean and come to the show. It was really amazing.”

BOYFRIEND who wants to be loved by a long period of time as a singer while showing their musical colour expressed their goals, “We want to win first place in music shows and it would be awesome if ‘BOUNCE’ becomes the song that represents BOYFRIEND”.

“In our country, is Jamsil stadium the largest concert hall? I would definitely want to try and perform there.” (Youngmin)

“Though it is also good to establish the scale of the concert, I’d like to become just like Shinhwa sunbae-nim who are receiving lots of love for a long period of time. When I was still a trainee, I was praised when I performed their song. Even though it’s a song that was released a long time ago, it’s still nice to listen to it even today. They also do a lot individual promotions/schedules and even when they’re together, they are united. I really want to be a role model.” (Minwoo)

Interesting to hear their thoughts on Lost Memory since it's really the only other track on the album I outright love besides Bounce. Maybe Starship should hand them the reins more often.

bounce is such a nice song. and the concept!!! although i dont really see the relevance of the girl. why must every kpop boy group mv need to have a girl whom they like giard or touch here and there...i really dont understand.

Lost Memory has pretty good line distribution. And sounds nice. ( ˘ω˘ ) ♡ I still need to listen more times to form an opinion on the other tracks lol. Has like the same feel as Obsession/Witch though. :v
