I really don't like D&E's songs but that's nothing new

Niel...kid is doing well

Sniper really grew on me because of the lives

My jpop princesses Lovelyz; Jiae <3

Shannon...I'm never watching/listening to this song again and you need to kick whoever added that obvious butt wiggle

I like D&E's And the beat goes better then Growing Pains. I also had to watch it again because I wanted to make sure that Eunhyuk falling wasn't in the dance, and it wasn't.

Yay to vixx, all kill ^_^

i still don't like lovelyz singing voices except for one of them, but the song stuck in my head and the choreo is entertaining so... i watch all their live performances now /sigh/

Forever surprised at how VIXX is slaying with this bland and lackluster song when all their previous songs were far superior imo.

IKR. I'm so amazed. biggest wtf of their career. I watched the MV heard the song but it's still nothing special to remember afterwards.

I have a feeling something isn't right but no evidence of cheating has come up so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Date: 2015-03-08 05:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gray-fairy.livejournal.com
Nah, I don't think they cheated. The general public usually like simple/bland songs. I still don't understand the huge success Some had last year. To me it was a kinda boring, coffee shop background song but lot of people in Korea prefer that kind of music over more upbeat songs.

lmao I was starting to think I was the only one who falls asleep with that song. I also used to like Eyes Nose Lips but I listened to it the other day and I suddenly found it so boring.

I only listen tablo's version of eyes, nose, lips and I still find a little boring too.
but some keeps its #1 as the most boring hit of 2014.

I guess my taste is totally different from general public.

I usually don't like the songs the general public likes either. They tend to love boring ballads or hip hop and any of those are really my cup of tea. A recent song I didn't like but it's still charting top 10 is Crush and Zion T's song. I don't say it's bad or anything but I find it a snooze fest. I usually prefer fast songs with a strong beat. Mid-tempo R&Bish songs aren't bad either.

I'm honestly shocked that they won for this song and I'm a starlight. But maybe its like you said, Korea's got a hard on for bland songs. I'm looking forward to their next single. (and I will forever be bitter that they can't release more then one song from a full album like artist in the states do. I was so hoping for a 1920 gangster video for B.O.D.Y, just an excuse to see Vixx in suits)

Seriously, I don't get they barely won/didn't win at all for great songs like On and On, Hyde, Error, etc but they're doing so well with this bland ass song. I expected to grow on me but it never happened :/

Date: 2015-03-08 07:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kittyboo17.livejournal.com
don't worry lol, you're not the only one who's still iffy about the song

but you know the thing is that during On&On and Hyde the fandom wasn't as big as it is now and VIXX didn't have the appeal like they have now. The concepts were also a bit 'too strong' for SK. I remember that when On&On was announced, kfans asked Jelpi to tone it down a notch because the concept was too much. Besides that Jekyll is still their best selling album yet. That repackage was promoted with G.r.8.u. and you can't really call that a dark song either except that the execution as a concept with Hyde was really well thought out. Originality isn't always rewarded.
Love Equation as a song also falls perfectly into the niche of songs that are really well liked in SK + it's a remake of a song that was already popular and the original group R.ef are also fully supporting this which gives them that wider public appeal. Combine all these factors and a fandom that has really grown and you have a song that's doing well on music shows. (not that I'm an all-knowing-person about this matter of course but I at least wanted to give you my view =) ) (lol, sorry this got so long)

Date: 2015-03-08 07:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kittyboo17.livejournal.com
that would be such a nice idea XD

I'm not that shocked. Song is doing well digitally (album sales don't matter as much anymore), the original was already popular, they get a lot of good buzz and are supported by the original makers from the group R.ef. which gives them a wider appeal and yeah this is the kind of song SK really likes. + out of all the albums VIXX already made, Jekyll is still their best selling yet.
Well, it's not that I expected them to do this well but a few wins like for Error wouldn't that be unsurprising.

it's a remake of a popular 90s song, i'm not that surprised tbh

From: [identity profile] gray-fairy.livejournal.com
Oic. That could be a reason, but idk, Red Velvet made that remake of the SES's song "Be Natural" and it flopped so idk what to think.

Date: 2015-03-08 06:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sakuragirl24.livejournal.com
well RV doesn't have vixx's fandom and love equation is a fun and cute song, that probably is important too idk

Date: 2015-03-08 06:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gray-fairy.livejournal.com
It's VIXX's fandom really that big though? I've always get the impression they're one of those groups with an okay-sized fanbase but nothing spectacular either.

Date: 2015-03-08 07:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sakuragirl24.livejournal.com
the fandom is not huge but it has grown a lot and is still getting bigger. They have over 100k members on the fancafe, it's not that big but it's really decent and starlights are quite active so they probably stream hard lol

Idk, the song is top 20-30 all the time on melon. Fandom power is usually not enough to make a song chart high all the time if the general public don't like it.

Date: 2015-03-08 08:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] iigoru.livejournal.com
20-30 is not that high. Crazy is top #10 all the time and Naul's song is top #3 and VIXX is still winning over them.
Fandom power.

From: [identity profile] gray-fairy.livejournal.com
Yeah, but those songs are like 3-4 weeks old so their digital points are lower (4minute had 3700 and VIXX had 5000 in this show). Their song is more recent and it's doing decently so that coupled with album sales and SNS points, you have the win, but if they were completely flopping digitally not even fandom power could save it. I remember BTS being nominated once and even if they got full points in SNS and live voting, they had under 1000 digital points so they didn't win. I'd say it's more a combination of fandom power+decent digitals+not having strong and *recent* competence this time.

Date: 2015-03-08 09:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] iigoru.livejournal.com
Yeah. But it's mostly fandom power.
Btw, how can they have more digital points? If one song is charting higher than the other, doesn't it means more points? Idgi

Date: 2015-03-08 09:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gray-fairy.livejournal.com
Tbh I've never understood how music shows count the digital points but I've noticed that the older a song is, the lower points it has, even if the song is top 5-10.

Date: 2015-03-08 09:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] heygurlhey93.livejournal.com
You're looking at their digital position for right now (based on melon) but the wins for this week are looking at their digital sales of last week, in which VIXX were overall higher (they were #2 in digital sales for Gaon comprehensive for last week while 4minute were #5)so VIXX having higher digital points makes sense because they did better digitally last week which is why their digital points in pretty much all these music show wins were very high.

They would have won even without the album points. Voting helps obviously so yea fandom has to do with it but their digital scores are nothing to scoff at or dismiss to just fans either. They happened to do very well digitally last week and are still doing pretty decent 2 weeks after the release of their song.

Why they didn't win anything yet tho? They're doing pretty decently digitally, like top 20 almost all the time.

Date: 2015-03-08 07:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mlmello.livejournal.com
I don't follow charts closely, so I've no idea if they're doing well compared to vixx's song, for example.
but I thought their comeback would get some music shows wins since they're the shinhwa. guess being a legend doesn't mean anything... lol

Date: 2015-03-08 07:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gray-fairy.livejournal.com
VIXX and Shinhwa are doing similar on charts (at least on melon). Both top 20-30 all the time, but Shinhwa sometimes even climbs to top 10-15, so I'd say they're doing slightly better. But if VIXX is doing better physically and their fandom is more active I can see why are they winning.

Date: 2015-03-10 11:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] 6rystalis.livejournal.com
Yeah, unfortunately, Shinhwa's physical album wasn't released until a week later on March 3rd and 5th, so we had zero physical album points for that week's chart. We hoped digital would be enough (ShinCom would release their album mid-week =.=), but since VIXX was doing similarly well there, it wasn't enough. Aish, those ajusshis.... T___T Clearly, ShinCom had no business game plan lol

At least we're placed 6th on World Billboard, and #1 and #4 on hanteo weekly chart this week...but who knows...with no mcount this week and Shinhwa's concert next weekend...

I'm surprised that people are surprised about VIXX winning this whole week. Based on their sales last week, it was pretty obvious they were gonna sweep this whole week and I'm willing to bet they'll gather a few next week as well. I see them ending this promo with atleast 8 wins, if not more.

Their company is very smart in how they promote these guys tbh, from what I've seen anyways. I'm not stan so I don't know the ins and out but they seem to actually plan things very well and strategically and it seems to always work out. It's pretty impressive. Wish my favs had that.

Starlights complain about jelpi's fanmanagement a lot but Jelpi has done right by Vixx when it comes to artist management.

Plans for a remake have been in motion for about a year and a half. Taking advantage of an already popular song to show a completely new side to them, which is why they used a bright upbeat song from 1995. They got the original singers to meet up with vixx and hang out with them in coffee shops and studio and record messages of support.

For their mini album Hyde in 2013, the concept of their repackaged mini was Jekyll and that was an impressively thought out tying both concepts together. They sealed the concept-dol title with Voodoo Doll but knew they needed a public friendly sound to tap people beyond their fandom (which Sung Sikyung -their labelmate talked about) their next two mini albums sitll had concepts but had a more public friendly sound. A lot of fans complain that it became blander and different from their previous releases, and while I agree to some extent, I can't hate since I know there's a reason for those music choices. Those weren't just randomly chosen songs. Vixx' fandom grew expentionentially in 2014 and had more people out of fandom paying mind to their songs.

Considering they're from a non-idol company ( i refuse to say small company since their artists are very established) and they don't have a member who made it big through a drama, variety etc to help spread awareness of their respective groups, I'd say Vixx is doing alright.

The guy in Jelpi who they name "Vixx' concept king" used to work for SM.
