Song Ji Hyo in Talks for New tvN Drama; Byun Yo Han Likely to Become Her Co-Star

Actress Song Ji Hyo is reported to be making a small-screen comeback this May.

According to a report on March 4, Song Ji Hyo is likely to be cast as the main role for new tvN drama “Ex-Girlfriend Club” (working title). Her last project was tvN drama “Emergency Couple,” which ended last April. Actor Byun Yo Han may also be cast as the main role.

The drama will be directed by Kwon Suk Jang, who also directed “Pasta,” “Golden Time,” and “Miss Korea.“ The writer, Lee Jin Mae, wrote the drama “I Am Sam.”

C-Jes Entertainment, Song Ji Hyo’s agency, responded to the report saying, “Song Ji Hyo is thinking positively about accepting the role in ‘Ex-Girlfriend Club.’ It’s too early to say that anything is confirmed though.”

Meanwhile, the drama will air after “Super Daddy 10.”

I love her a lot but her acting is...lacking. I thought she was fine in A Frozen Flower, but after I watched Emergency Couple and that Jaejoong movie I was disappointed. The movie was particularly awful.

For me it was standard romantic comedy. Not specially bad but I wouldn't say is good either. Just watch if you're bored but don't expect anything.

jaejoong's acting was, imo, good in triangle - but i guess that since triangle did come out like two years after the movie so his acting had probably improved since then. i don't know about jihyo's acting, mostly just know her from RM, so maybe i'll watch like 10 minutes of the movie to see if it's worthwhile or not - but definitely wouldn't have any high expectations

I was coming in here to say the same thing. I loooooove her...but in watching a lot of random things her acting doesn't do it for me. I love that she is getting money but IMO I would rather her be herself on a TV show because that is more compelling and enjoyable.

I haven't watched it but if this is really the case I think the issue may be that she can't act comedy but can act drama. She is obviously funny on reality shows.

OP Byun Yo Han is already confirmed! I made a post like a month ago about him and Yeo Jin Go both getting cast as leads.

im kinda of rooting for SJH but i also want Kim Ji Won to snag something this year and I wanna see Han Groo return to screen, same with Kim So Eun

I think the main problem with actresses from that age is that their competitors are all the idols out there; people with an already established fanbase. I'm not against idols acting, but I think everyone deserves the same chance. unfortunately, we know that female leading roles are often used like accessories for male leads, so it's easier (and more profitable) to put an idol on this and monetize. it's sad.

sigh so true but honestly seeing as the public opinion is so against idol actors and no matter how big their fanbase they can't save a sinking ship if they can't act, i think producers & casting directors are better off hedging their bets on talented actresses.

ia about the idol acting, if they can act like Sooyoung and Uee is doing well in Ho Gu's Love (i think they'll both be actors post idol careers though) im ok with it but seeing talented actresses get pushed away for whatever visual in whatever band is frustrating.

I think the thing about casting idols is because of the chances of the drama being successful as a product (being sold overseas, potential of high ratings that attracts more advertisement). especially with the big 3 channels, quality of the acting is not priority but the potential of their cast to monetize. the criticism from netizens doesn't seem to bother the broadcasters because they keep using idols...

I don't think idols acting are destroying the dramas. actually, some of them are saving them (in the most cases, the problem is with writers or directors) and I think we've untalented people in both sides (idols and actors). but the situation of young actresses seems worse to me because we already suffer from a lack of good roles in this gap and we've a huge number of people fighting for them. adding this to the money oriented industry, you can presume who they will choose...

this is really well written i def agree, playful kiss flopped with like 3% in korea but got over 17 million hits on viki and sold for a crazy high amount in southeast asia/japan

i've actually never seen SJH in anything but i love her to death and BYH has join my bae list thanks to misaeng AND tvN has been dropping quality dramas so this is a win win for me.
