AOA’s Seolhyun to Star Alongside Yeo Jin Goo in “Orange Marmalade”

AOA‘s Seolhyun has been confirmed as the female lead of KBS2TV’s upcoming Friday drama, “Orange Marmalade.”

Acting alongside Yeo Jin Goo and CNBLUE’s Jonghyun, Seolhyun will take on the role of Baek Ma Ri, who is described as an attractive but reserved young vampire. In order to live peacefully with humans and avoid conflicts, she hides her true identity from others.

Seolhyun shares her thoughts on being cast for the role, “I am determined to do well, which makes me feel pressured. However, just by looking at the script, I can tell that filming [the drama] will be fun, and I’m looking forward to it. I am working hard to transform into Ma Ri, so please stay tuned.”

A representative of the drama shares, “Seolhyun has a chic, feminine, and lovely character, but at the same time, she is bright and full of life. Please look forward to the synergy that takes place when Seolhyun meets her on-screen character Baek Ma Ri.”

“Orange Marmalade” is a fantasy romance that revolves around the coexistence of vampires and humans. Based on a webtoon, the story focuses on two contrasting themes: innocent love and social discrimination. The drama is expected to premiere in May.

Kim So Hyun is doing Sensory Couple as Yoochun's sister. then Kim Yoo Jung has Angry Mom with Kim Hee Sun
Kim Sae Ron did a high school drama on KBS which aired on the same time slot
Ji Jin Hee doing Seonam High School Investigation drama
Lee Yeol Eum is mediocre. Moon Ga Young is not any better
Ha Yeon Soo doing another drama at the moment

the only other actresses that i can see on the role are Yoon So Hee and Lee Se Yeong but there's no news of them since their last drama last year

Seolhyun is not a bad actress at all, not all idol actresses are terrible

Ma Ri also needs to sing and being able to play guitar

FNC is ridiculous with pushing their idols as actors tbh, I remember when they tried to push for Yonghwa as lead of Heirs ahead of freaking Lee Min Ho, like bitch know your place pls. (and I say this despite my dislike of Lee Min Ho)

Reserving judgment especially because I really like Orange Marmalade and Mari as a heroine. Bit salty IU isn't gonna be Mari but feel like I've dodged a bullet considering Suzy wasn't cast. So long as the drama writing stays true to the webtoon and Seolhyun is decent and has chemistry with Yeo Jin Goo I'll be good.

K-netizens are not going to be happy about this, lol. They're already pissed enough over IU considering a role in Producer alongside Kim Soo-hyun.

How come there's such a dearth of visible, talented young actresses in Korea? (IU's definitely not bad, but she's not a talent you exactly get excited about...I have no idea of Seolhyun, but I'm assuming from the other comments here that she hasn't blown people away with her natural aptitude either).

It's ridiculous tbh, there's absolutely no shortage of talent but so many girls who slay in second lead roles never get the shot at a Big 3 drama lead.

Like there is zero reason for someone like Jin Se Yeon or Go Sung Hee to be scooping one lead after another while Lee Yoobi, Kim Ji Won, Jung So Min, Park Eun Bin, Kim So Eun, Yoon So Hee etc remain relegated to smaller roles.

The fact that Jung So-min isn't at least at Park Min-young's level of fame is bewildering. She's clearly one of the most talented and charismatic (and pretty, which shouldn't matter, but it does...especially in Korea) actresses in her age group, and she's wasting away in these piffling female second-lead roles. She just exudes that sort of 'clearly going to be a big star' aura, so I don't understand why she's not getting great opportunities.

Meanwhile, as you noted, the most mediocre (or flat-out terrible) young actresses scoop up projects left and right.

It can't solely be down to the fact that there's a paucity of juicy roles for them, because although there is slim pickings, we see talented actresses take on dramas/movies that are obviously beneath them all the time - they need that lead role money/exposure just like everyone else. So unless they're incredibly preoccupied with university or something, it's that they're not getting cast. I somewhat understand the calculus when it comes to idol actresses, even if I resent it, but why the fuck are the talented ones you mentioned being past over for the likes of Jin Se-yeon, Shin Se-kyung, Go Sung-hee, etc.?

Exactly, I get the popularity metric (even tho Suzy's acting career remains an insult to acting skill of any kind and often members who are actually talented at acting get shut out in favour of the more "visual"/popular ones - but that is a rant for another day) so I get that established actresses like Park Shin Hye or Shin Se Kyung will be option #1 for many dramas.

what really makes me mad tho is when talentless nugus like JSY/GSH score roles over the likes of Jung So Min. Like there is no fucking reason to inflict that on viewers, so why is it even happening?
