Former Girls’ Generation member Jessica Jung has been rumored to be preparing for her future debut in Japan.

Netizens have come to suspect this after Jessica recently shared a photo of herself sitting at a recording studio, which caused many to suspect that the singer was indeed preparing for her solo career. The clues continued to build up as Japanese singer, Itano Tomomi, hinted at Jessica’s potential arrival in Japan during her recent fan meeting.

Fans discovered that Jessica was also following producer Hide Kawada on Instagram who is part of the creator team, FUTURE UNISON, which in the past has produced music for Itano Tomomi and SM Entertainment artists TVXQ and BoA. Fans speculated that it was clear that both Hide Kawada and Jessica were present in New York at the same time and may have met each other there.

Jessica was recently in New York with her sister, Krystal Jung, on February 17th.

"What, Sica's debuting in Japan!? Is this for real??"

well, in general solo female artists are doing bad in japan and imo if iu (aka the personification of kawaii lbr) didn't make it in japan idt any korean solo singer can.

although i'm curious what music jessica would put out.

Kana Nishino is one of the few female solo artists doing well in Japan but that's because she's been singing the same song since her debut over and over, it's just that the japanese audience hasn't realized yet.

Jessica should try and copy that <3.

I'm from Japan and even though I stan Sica to Pluto and back, I think her chances are rather slim.

Nevermind...if she really debuts here, I'll give her my full support! <333

In my opinion, comparing them with tvxq is not really fair considering sm send both tvxq and boa to japan where they spend quite fairly amount of time there to learn the language compare to snsd and shinee where they travel back and forth japan, korea etc. im sure if they were given the same opportunity as tvxq and boa, they would have learn japanese better instead of relying to translator or sooyoung.

Makes sense. Even if her album flops, she could still probably sell out a 100k tour. (Bigbang and 2pm members do it all the time)

Tomochin is /that/ close with Jess? I thought she was just a fan of GG like other AKB members.

curious, where is everyone getting these "hallyu is dead in japan" vibes? i live currently in japan in a tiny city and even the uni i went to has a kpop dance cover circle. i haven't made much research but i feel like for example got7 and 2pm are not doing bad in japan. my friend told me 2pm fans here might be even more hardcore than in korea.

yeah, i live in japan too and just... it's obviously not on the scale that it 4 years ago when kara & snsd were literally e v e r y where, but i think there's still a sizeable fanbase for kpop? like it was ridiculous when EXO came to tokyo last decemeber.

I went to Japan twice a couple years ago and aside from a few groups (2PM being one of them btw) I got the impression that most of people didn't really care about kpop. They have fans ofc, but not at the same scale than 4-5 years ago. Most of young people prefer stanning their own japanese idol groups like AKB48 or Johnny's.

i think kpop was more ~mainstream~ in japan circa 2011. sales have definitely been declining since then. there are still huge fanbases for certain kpop groups, but i think the japanese general public no longer cares much.

Out of topic but bless 2pm oppar for getting that yen money without having to undergo shitty schedule like in korea. People keep calling them has been in korea but i still see them in variety show and what not.

Jessica is great at singing but I can't stand her voice...although she does have the nasally quality that Japan loves, so maybe she wouldn't do too badly? Also concerned about her stage presence because she's gonna have to give 100% the entire time....

Um, considering that Japan doesn't really care for kpop anymore aside from a few exceptions idk if this could work.

Even if this flops she'll make money? In any case - her solo career plans seem all over the place and very random, seems like she's scrambling to get her stuff together and I feel bad for her.

I don't see how this would work. Yeah her debut might sell (No where near SNSD records tho), but she can't even do a solo concert because what material can she sing? SNSD Songs? LOL

Okay what exactly is SM doing here? She was kicked out of GG, so why not just let her go? Lol, I know it's SM and they're clingy ex boyfriend AF, but seriously.

looks like they're using Jessica to see and check how good of an idea it is to give them solo careers in Japan (I'm talking about most SM artists here).

Jessica is the most famous gg member in Japan after all

I think she should debut in China instead, for many reasons, but i'll take whatever she gives me and i'll support her.

She could have a chance in Japan if she gets great songs and pulls off a Kana Nishino/Che'nelle kind of image and goes for the female audience.

I was hoping for her to go the slutty pop bitch route but i think this would be better for her and also suits her better lol

From: [identity profile] eishastan.livejournal.com
I would also like that route for her, and that's why she should try the chinese market instead, she would have better chances in China than Japan with an image and sound like the one you mentioned, and have a career similar to Jolin Tsai or Elva Hsiao, that go from slutty pop bitches to ballad songstresses.

Let's also not forget that China and Taiwan loves solo artists, they pretty much dominate the market, she was the most popular SNSD member there and she has the connections.

her appearance is the reason i stay in snsd through the years but i really can't stand her voice.
i hope she won't be using her nasal voice but then yeah.. many people thinks that it's suits japan's taste.. okay then.
wait i just realize that sm must have given her permission to do solo or.. maybe it's sm who give her a chance to go solo?
what.
then why did you kick her out, sm?
