I applaud Mamamoo’s sense. It’s been a long time since there was a group of girls with good singing ability who sing fast tempo jazz and blues. Their lyrics are humorous and their dances, creative. They don’t have a sexy concept, nor do they wear school uniforms, but that makes them even more refreshing.

“We write lyrics ourselves, come up with choreography and direct in the recording studio. Since we are the ones who will go onstage and perform, we should be the ones who find the appropriate musical color for ourselves.” Solar knows that authenticity is the most important thing.

For this girl, Amy Winehouse is a musical inspiration. Solar saw Amy for the first time through paparazzi photos. They were photos that depicted her alcoholism and demise from drug use. She admires Amy who poured herself into her music despite the fact that her life was in shambles.

“I am also a free spirit like her, but I want to become someone who focuses entirely on music and displays their talent.”

How did it feel for her to pay homage to someone she respects?
“It was even more difficult. Since I like her so much, doing a homage was awkward. How can I portray her?”

The dressing up like her part's not tacky. A lot of celebs do that in tribute to their idols. I didn't like what she said about Amy being a free spirit, since she was really weighed down by her problems. But, this reads like only part of an interview, and I'm glad she's pointing out that people can be talented (and good?) people despite drug addictions.

I don't really know her, but she looks good. Unfortunately I, too, feel uncomfortable looking at this concept. Amy was one of my fav vocalists and I feel like this is too soon...
