I kid. I really love hearing him sing Gloomy Clock. I'd really like to hear a full cover. Just to hear the composer sing his composition. And I agree with Sir Yoo, I felt like my ears were being caressed listening to Jonghyun speak. And I feel disrespected...lol.
how could anyone didnt pointed his GOD GIVEN MUSICAL TALENT for making a song based on how he pictured Jang Kiha would sing it??!! SDKHLASDHSADHKALDHADJGA I was literally screaming like jasdkhalskdhlasdhash Jonghyun sang and wrote a lyric and made the melody the exact Jang Kiha style?! it's too good to be true! 2 of my fav singers are like merging into one xDDDDDD
Yes! I was pleasantly surprised by that! I didn't know he was a fan of Jang Kiha or the faces. And the fact that he composes songs with them in mind??? I just...let me die. I wonder who else he does this for (apparently not yoo hee yeol, lol).
all those imitations made me realize that by no means has his singing gotten worse, he has gotten so much better since debut, just the way he opts to sing doesn't really showcase all his vocal abilities, which is great actually, he has his on style and doesn't feel the need to prove himself,
that being said I wish he would go on those singing programs again cause I really want to hear him singing like this more
the evolution of his voice is really intrigues me. i don't know anything about sining to make any form of proper analysis, but i am always reminded of this interview he did forever ago where he admitted that he trained like hell before debut because he knew that once he debuted, his voice would not get any better. seems like he's adapted and found a style that works well for him, but most importantly one that he enjoys.
i wish he were on a singing program again as well so we can hear him talk more about music and his vocal training . he was so happy when he was on immortal song. but then again, i feel like people will expect/compel him to some type of ~power vocal~ performance (which prob won't go so well) or a ballad (which he admitted isn't his strong suit), so idk...
ia with your last paragraph. so many people classify good singers as someone that is either 1) belts/does vocal gymnastics or 2) a ballad singer. i feel like sm even tried to fit him into that mold too, with how they were either giving him ridiculous notes to hit or his work in sm the ballad.
what are your thoughts on the evolution of his voice? i know nothing about the technical aspects of music or singing, so i' m most likely talking about of my bottom here. but i was always fascinated by his voice pre-lucifer and post-lucifer. his singing voice pre-lucifer was a lot lower and i almost want to say smoky? and somewhere in their long hiatus between rdd and lucifer, his singing voice became a lot higher and almost brassy.
it seems that a lot of it is simply due to their music going a higher register (??) because of taemin growing into his voice and jonghyun adapting/improving his technique to fit his voice to the type of notes he was expected to hit. and he was rocky for a while, i remember not enjoying a lot of their lucifer or hello performances because jonghyun's voice sounded strained and needed rest.
this essay about jjong's voice is long enough as is. but i'm glad sm let jonghyun do his own thing for his solo, that he found a vocal style and pitch that works for him, that his technique is so much better to the point where his voice sounds so much healthier. he doesn't sound like he's dying while reaching for that note.

That's so interesting - I've never heard an idol admit anything like that before. (Although I guess Taemin's kind of a counterexample)

As someone who enjoys Jjong more when he isn't belting, I'm glad he's not. And it's so refreshing to find a Korean idol that doesn't like K-ballads too - although that's not the same thing as disliking all slow-paced songs.
