GOT7’s Youngjae has been accepted into Seokyeong University as a theater and film major for the incoming 2015 class. Youngjae was one of several celebrities who took the college entrance exam last November.

Youngjae will attend Seokyeong University and continue his activities as a singer at the same time. As theater and singing often go hand-in-hand, Youngjae chose to join the theater and film department to lay the groundwork to expand his career.

Youngjae played an active part in his group GOT7, a JYP Entertainment boy group that debuted in 2014. GOT7 received the Best New Artist Award at the Golden Disk Awards and the Seoul Music Awards, confirming their status as one of the hottest rookies of 2014.

I'm happy for him and I think he'll do well in his studies, but like....where are the 100 netizens crying special admission like for Namjoo?

Well, it says that he actually took the entrance exam while Namjoo got in on "special admission" (at least that was what I read). That's a big difference!

So, do you know if the college entrance exam is like the SAT? Like most take it, but you can also just apply directly to a school or is the special admission actually different than the regular admissions process?

From what I've read over the years, I'm assuming special admission is SK is like nepotism in a way; they got in because of who they are rather than how they did in the exams.

Somewhat sure the exam is the CSAT, and every student takes it. I was actually looking at sample questions last night, and it looks crazy hard. I'd be salty too if some celeb skipped all that and got in because of who they are.

that plus namjoo's uni seems to be much more prestigious than youngjae's

I feel it might also have to do with the ranking of the school. i'm not downplaying seokyeong university at all, because i believe every school is good depending on how the attendee makes of their experience, but sungkyunkwan is "statistically" (depending on what you look at) better then seokyeong . when i was applying, out of curiosity i was looking into college rankings in asia - including south korea. sungkyunkwan is in the top 6 according to usnews. I saw a few other reports that put sungkyunkwan at a much higher level then seokyeong, in fact, near the stop with the SKY universities (and we definitely know what would happen if an idol got into one of those)

i don't really understand the whole special admission vs. college exam, but if i were to compare it to US standards, its like someone with a 1200 on the SAT getting into NYU, with netizens believing namjoo to be the 1200 scorer getting into NYU. (or something like that, SAT scoring has apparently changed since I applied.) It might also be worth mentioning that I don't think Youngjae even got into his top choice, since he has said previously he was interested in attending Howon University my 2young feels

Of course though, take everything I say with a grain of salt, since I have not applied to any schools in Korea nor experienced the korean education culture. all i'm basing this off is my own research about a year ago, along with the acceptance process in Taiwan and Hong Kong, which i can almost certainly say is similar (ie. battle of the fittest just to get into)

tl;dr: all education systems are flawed in some way, and regardless of it all, I congratulate them both, 'cause just getting into university is already a big deal. So proud of Youngjae (heck yeah film major!!), and i sincerely congratulate Namjoo and all other celebrities (and non celebrities!!) for going!

I'm really curious how idols do their career and university at the same time. They both seem like full-time jobs. Stoked for him, but how much sleep will he get now? Negative 6 hours a day?
