Park Myung Soo Apologizes to Seolhyun in “Brave Family” and Seolhyun Explains Why She Cried

On January 23, a preview of “Brave Family” was released in which showed Park Myung Soo seemingly pushing AOA’s Seolhyun’s head. Seeing the video, many viewers went on a heated debate whether Park Myung Soo’s action was appropriate or not.

When the controversy arose, Park Myung Soo expressed that he was upset about the way the preview was edited. Many Netizens have waited for the actual episode to air to see whether Park Myung Soo should really make a formal apology.

However, Park Myung Soo may not have to make an apology after all, as he already did so at the time of the incident.

On January 30, the episode of “Brave Family” including the controversial scene aired. In the episode, the family goes shopping at a market place in Cambodia in order to prepare coffee and eggs for Seolhyun’s birthday. While on their way back, Lee Moon Sik accidently drops the eggs. Because eggs are quite expensive to buy, he goes back to the market in order to beg for new ones. However, Seolhyun accidentally drops those eggs also. Seeing what happened, Shim Hye Jin yells, “Hey!” and Park Myung Soo pushes her head.

After the incident, Seolhyun bursts into tears and goes into her room, making other family members panic. Park Myung Soo goes to Seolhyun right away and explains, “It wasn’t to tell you off. I was just really hungry. I’m sorry.” He then adds, “It’s completely your uncle’s (Park Myung Soo’s role) fault for pushing your head. I was just upset that we couldn’t eat [the eggs] anymore.” Even after, he continues to apologize saying, “Don’t get my intentions wrong. I’m sorry, it was my bad.”



In the behind-the-scene interview, Park Myung Soo confesses, “When she broke the eggs, I immediately wondered whether I should I push her head or not. Then I thought, as an uncle, it’d be okay to push her head as a way of saying, ‘Why did you make a mistake?’ and the push only meant that.” Seolhyun also explains in her interview, “Everyone seems to be thinking that I cried because Uncle Myung Soo pushed me but it wasn’t because of that. I was upset that I broke the eggs. It was out of blaming myself for the mistake.”



After the incident, the family members in “Brave Famiy” criticize Park Myung Soo together in order to cheer Seolhyun up. Kang Min Hyuk says, “Why did you make my sister cry?” and Lee Moon Sik yells at him saying, “She was probably really surprised! We can get eggs any time,” and tells Park Myung Soo off.

Shim Hye Jin was eating plain rice with soy sauce while Seolhyun had fish stacked on top of her bowl. She's young, yeah, but she has no respect for the family at all.

And if she wasn't crying because of Park Myung Soo, she should've said something so it doesn't seem like that but all she did was sit there and cry. She's young but that doesn't give her an excuse to act like this on variety.

I'm sure Seolhyun was very sorry about cracking the egg when one is considered very precious~ But still, I think Park Myung Soo lost his temper when he shoved her head as hard as for her to have to put her leg out to regain her posture. He shouldn't do that again. There's a limit to everything in variety.

She also wasn't even in a situation where crying was warranted but she cried ㅋㅋㅋ and while everyone else is bare faced, she put make up on to fix her eyebrows and lips. Hopeless..

This is a word that gets kind of lost in translation, Uncle (Samchon) is an honorific like saying unni or oppa except used for a significantly older male.

Lol ppl need to chill about celebs in general imo. PMS' apology was really cute, I hope he'll control himself better next time. That's it, there is no need to act like he's an irl devil or something, esp when you didn't even get the full story in the first place. Also the person that is the most concerned here wasn't traumatized or anything so that's what matters.

Yes she may be horrible at her tasks in this environment and that she's clumsy. It's only the first few episodes, the PD cast her instead of someone who was more self-sufficient because she's a "growing" character.
The typical "initially useless but eventually becomes skillful" character that almost every story line has.

Its like when you're new at a job and you keep messing up and one little thing just sends you into tears. i watched both episode. I don't see Seolhyun whines in the show. She actually finds everything fascinating and delicious. Not helping, not doing anything? there's nothing much to do in the house. both her mom and sis already occupied the kitchen. she was quietly sitting behind reading the language book and copied some useful phrases to make it easier for them. never shares food, eats everything? they obviously edited the part to make it look like she eats well coz meokbang is kinda a must in variety show so of course it appears like she ate everything herself. PMS also ate snacks alone quietly, and whines a lot in ep.1 but no one points it out. amazing
