Happy 2015! January K-indie Post
2015-01-29 12:51 pmPosting this a little bit early since I'll be out of town this weekend. ^_~
동방박사 aka M.A.G.I. feat. 강서영 - pung-gagjaeng-i (A Street Singer)
Released on January 1st, M.A.G.I.'s second single "pung-gagjaeng-i" kicked off the new year with a surprisingly well-executed blend of conversational hip-hop and pansoori over a backdrop of traditional Korean art forms. Maybe not the most boppable tune for everyone, but it definitely feels fresh and is something I'd like to see more of in the future.
Phonebooth - The Wind Rises
The first official MV from Phonebooth's 3rd album, Wonder, "The Wind Rises" combines lead vocal Kim Taewoo's emotional singing with a rock instrumental/orchestra mix reminiscent of Oasis in their heyday. You can see more of their live performances on their label Tripper Sound's Youtube.
Bangnim (방님) - Snooze
A cute, relaxed-yet-upbeat acoustic song with an equally adorable animated video. This wouldn't be a bad tune to start your day to.
Robbin feat. Sieun - Forest
Normally whisper-singing like this gets on my nerves, but Sieun's voice is so relaxing and fits the piano/cello melody so well that I actually really love this song. The illustrations used in the video, including one of the album cover, help reflect the moodiness and simplicity of the music, and the MV also doubles as a lyric video (if you can read hangul.) There's an alternate version of the MV here.
JoJo Blowhard - Good Night
The video itself is kind of wack, but I feel like the quality of the actual song makes up for it. I hope we hear more from them in the future.
