KYU-LINE (+ INFINITE'S SUNGGYU) FOR NEW VARIETY SHOW 'FLUTTERING INDIA'

Super Junior's Kyuhyun, TVXQ's Changmin, and SHINee's Minho are the final members to be confirmed for KBS’ new variety show, which is tentatively titled “Fluttering India.”

The news of their casting come just moments after EXO’s Suho, Infinite’s Sunggyu, and CNBLUE’s Jonghyun were revealed to be heading to India for the program. The first shoot will be held in mid-February for around five days.

Except for Sunggyu, all of the cast members belong to one of the most famous K-Pop cliques, the so-called “Kyu-line.” This will mark their first time to go abroad together.

The focus of “Fluttering India” will be on the cast members and their interaction with locals, and how the celebrities manage to overcome challenges posed by language, culture, and environment. The first episode is set to air in mid-April, according to latest reports.




EXO's Suho, Infinite's Sunggyu, and CNBLUE's Jonghyun have joined KBS’s upcoming variety show, which will take them to India.

According to industry insiders, they recently confirmed their appearance on the show, and will be leaving for India in mid-February. Tentatively titled “Fluttering India,” the show is produced by Lee Ye Ji, who is best known for her work on “Hello Counselor.”

Suho, Sunggyu, and Jonghyun have reportedly met up with the producers multiple times this month, and prepared themselves for the upcoming adventure. In addition to the three stars, some of their close friends will be joining the show.

Unlike tvN’s hugely popular “Over Flowers” series, “Fluttering India” is not a show about celebrities going on a fun trip with their friends. Instead, the focus will be on the cast members and their interaction with locals, and how the celebrities manage to overcome challenges posed by language, culture, and environment.

The show is expected to premiere in March.

I really want to be here for this because of Kyuhyun/Changmin/Minho and them getting to travel together, but everything about this has me on edge, never mind how packed some of their schedules are (Kyuhyun's been going non-stop for a really long time, and I know Changmin's tour is starting). Plus where would they even go? Would they stick to big cities or go further into more rural places? What language would they have to operate in? This "interaction with locals" and "challenges posed by language, culture, and environment" are really not making me excited for this.

Same concerns here, plus the good point mentioned by "Chomsky" up there. I mean, I don't think I'd like this to be one of those shows that has some kind of underlying messages/sentiments of superiority over other countries that are, in general, less developed than Korea? What about possible racist sentiments? Perhaps those sentiments are not made those starring inside this show, but what about the audience? That won't be nice :/

I've been hoping Kyu-line would do a show together for a while now (as has Changmin from what I heard) so I'm decidedly onboard. I lot of people are being really sceptic about the premise of the show but I think they're jumping the gun. Just because they are actually interacting with locals and not just their Korean TV crew doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be exploitative. Hearing that a Hello Counselor PD is behind this is definitely welcome news for me. I just hope it's not too scripted.

I stan half of these people pretty hard but I'm pretty sure this is going to be messy at best, and as a Desi person I'm looking forward to it even less. The potential for exploitation or just stupid/incorrect portrayals of South Asia is huge and I'm already resigning myself to some of my biases saying or doing dumb shit. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, but hopes are not high here.

Kyu-line is a group of Kyuhyun's (and Changmin's) friends, it's just what they call themselves, lol. Kyuhyun/Changmin/Minho are the 'core' of it, and Jonghyun's part of it too. I think Suho might tentatively be part of it too?

lol. They could have spent all of their time in India learning about all the culture, heritage and contributions to world history and religion India has and not be done.

They choose to focus on how poor India is instead. Last time I checked, India still has a higher GDP than Korea. It's also a BRIC nation with rising economic power as well. Not even denying that poverty is a real issue in India, but they could do the exact same tv program in China. Both countries are still considered developing and are rapidly modernizing. Both countries have bigger movie industries than Korea as well. This superiority complex over SEA countries is too much.

I pretty much only enjoy Kpop when it's in Korea now. Whenever someone else's culture is brought into the mix, it's just plain messy and gets super fucked up really quickly.
